Default Bacon's 79 F150

Well, I got a new body for my SCX10 so I decided to make a new thread for it. It's all mounted up, and I thought I would need to change my wheelbase back to 11.4 but it lines up perfectly with my 12.1" wheelbase. Tire coverage is great as well since this is a wide body. The colours I thinking of using is Tamiya blue on the bottom and silver on top, not sure yet. It'll also get a proper name, just have thought of one yet.

Some pics for now:

That will look very good with the blue and silver. I always like the netural colors on the bottom and the hot or cold on top. Thats just me though. That wheel base lined up perfect

I was surprised with the wheelbase as well, I read a few places saying it lines up perfectly with the Dingo but I thought "what the hell, might as well try before I rip the truck apart to change it". The front tire could be moved back just a bit, but it doesn't contact the bottom of the front fender and the rear wheel doesn't touch the rear fender so it's all good in my book lol. The paint will be blue on the bottom up until the trim line on the body and then silver above that.

Looking good bacon...how long have you run those cardboard inner fenders?
Color scheme should look sweet with the black wheels too.

Plastic margarine containers , I've run them for a couple years lol. I hope the colour turns out nice, I'll find out tomorrow when I paint it.

Of course...I saw the ingredients and thought they were for mock up (like mine) but then I noticed they were painted.
Looking forward to seeing the paint job

Well, she got painted today. I think next time I'm going to use liquid mask, I can't get good results with tape.

I was using a new roll of painters tape, I probably needed something with a tighter seal.

Great job on the color scheme Bacon! Nice truck. I love this body on the SCX-10!

I mostly use the blue painters tape and it is possible to get a clean line with it, you just have to be working with a clean body (washed with soap and water), make sure the lines are pressed down really well, and then use a fine mist of paint as a first coat to seal the tape lines.

Not to hijack your excellent thread, but I painted my '79 Ford SCX-10 (thread on here) and this baja bug with a combination of the blue painters tape and Tamiya masking tape and got some fairly clean lines:

Thanks man. Yea, I think I sprayed the first coat of black just a touch too thick and it absorbed into the tape. Oh well, it just needs scratches now lol. Your paint job looks great too.

Looks great. I know you wanted perfect lines, but I think it adds to the character. Gives it a more roughed up 4x4 look.

you can never go wrong with frog tape... its simply amazing.. perfect lines. i also use blue scotch tape #2093, the contrast between the two tapes is really nice for multiple colors and not worrying about peeling the wrong layer.. i like your color combo!

Thanks guys, I copied the paint design off of the F350 that Offroad Magazine has:

Anyways, took it out today on it's maiden voyage. Everything worked well, except I broke a wire off of the motor (again...). So, I'm going to need to get a new one soldering iron. Anyways, on to the pics:

Quick question. That is the HPI body correct? Also is the body rub very bad?
I love the old fords my first truck was 1960 ford on 38's then I got a 79 on my dear old dad helped me put it up on 40's I really really really wish I still had that truck.

Yep, this is the HPI, they also have a crew cab version but the wheelbase is close to 14". No tire rub at all, except for when the tires are stuffed all the way.

I would love to get a 79 F1/2/350 but around here they are almost always rotted out beyond repair.

Here's a new pic from last week:

I should have more tomorrow, I switched the tires to my MTZ's so I'll give them a go at the park.

Not an entirely groundbreaking update, but I ordered some bumpers for the truck, Dingo front and rear. Yeah I know, could have gotten metal ones, but I like the look of the Dingo bumpers and they're cheap.
