For strength, would I be better off going with stock xr univerasals or a set of vp vvds, I have searched on the vps and see them breaking......?

I am gathering the parts to do the mod. I am personally going with the stock Xr10 universals.

I haven't had a problem with chopped down axial universals. Holmes handwound on 3s and heavyish rig.

Well that's what I just did so we'll hope that holds true for me. Was actually pretty easy to do, following the directions in this thread. Sent from the can using Tapatalk |

I want to change an Scx10 axle to have the XRmod for more steering. I just pulled out my old stock AR60 axle shaft and its matching stub axle and compared it to the SCX axle and stub, and cant see any difference in the bearing positions or the pivot points. so why is it that the XR mod requires XR10 axle shafts? cant i just use SCX shafts but swap out the Chubs/knuckles? i think this measurement isnt really fair, Quote:
ultimately, ill be going with wraith Chubs and knuckles, and probably plastic to start with as i have a feeling ill be grinding the Chubs down a tad like i had to do on my creeper axle here> can someone enlighten me, or at least confirm/deny what im trying to say please? | |

The distance between chubs & knuckles of ax/scx and xr/wraith are different to accommodate the universal. Also the 8° inclination is free with upgrade!

but on stock parts theyre Identical. both dog n bone shafts are the same. including bearing lands, and the distance between the bearing land, and the ball with the pins on the shaft. its a shame i traded my AR60 parts, i could have checked them first hand. |

So mine was sidelined for a bit but I just got back to it last night and came up with a few questions. I am using the steel standard length Beef Tubes and the holes on the wraith c-hubs are different the axle housing holes. I see some people have drilled new holes in the hubs to match the housing and some use the chub holes and drill/tap the tubes in the propper location. Is there any reason why one way is better than the other? Is there a smart way to locate the hole on the on the hub to match the existing holes in the housing and beef tubes?

Just thought I would add something. I've got a good 20 hours of runtime on m xr10 mod. What a great mod after awhile it was neccessary to add a 3rd screw to the bottom of the c's, otherwise they would work loose even with locktite. And I am probably going to invest in a no slop locker because my locker and shafts are getting quite a bit of slop in them

are beef tubes a must? I'm planning to make the xr10 mod to my scx10,as I'm doing a complete rebuild of my rig. My question is do I only need the c-hubs, knuckles and the axles or do I also need something else . thanks. |

I think it is best to get some kind of beef tubes in there or at least make some yourself to save money and not purchase. You can use the mentioned brass tubes and cut to length. This is needed as those would be where the screws on he C hubs would secure into. When I ran just the plastic without tubes, the plastic C hubs eventually broke due to stress added to them and not enough support Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free |

eunique, thank you for the reply. I think I order the parts without beef tubes , because my scx10 was holding up pretty well the last four and a half years with the stock knuckles even tough I was racing over rocks with full throttle and it even fell down cliffs . I'll try it without, if they dont hold up I'm gonna make some beeftubes out of brass and print some new c-hubs. If Imade english mistakes, sorry I AM A STUDENT FROM LUXEMBOURG and I'am learining English for 2 years now. |
