I did this mod on my rig along with re working the uni. and what a difference. Lookin' @ around 65° of steering.
I'll look for some pic's of before and after.

This mod is well worth the time and money.

I'll third it. My rig had horrible turning radius. Now I can turn with the big dogs!

The eight degree inclination at the kingpin and ability to clock the axle sell it for me. However, I think what predu and myself were hoping to figure out is roughly how many degrees the stock axle will allow WITH CVD's, compared to the modified axle. This is my first SCX10 kit, kind of disappointed with the stock axles.

Watch this video and you'll see some great steering, especially between 1:25 - 2:50. 3 of the 4 rigs have this mod, the green jeep has maxed out super 300s, and the yellow JK has the reworked and clearenced XR10 universals with about 65°of steering.

I just did the short xr10 mod. Thank you so much! great write up. I used the zero Ackerman arms in the front and tapped the beef tubes on the top and bottom so I could have the chubs vertical instead of rotated slightly back and I had to make a custom bent steering linkage. Take your time and go slow, best mod ever! Thanks

Can someone confirm that the wraith universals will work for this mod?

The wraith unis have a long side and short side.. The short side will not reach far enough into the scx housing.. You would need to add material..

https://www.rc-offi.net/smf/index.ph...89429#msg89429

Takes 3mm from both sides.

XR10 axles are getting super hard to find. Wish Axial would just upgrade their line of universals for the scx10. I guess given the option we either use two long wraith axles cut down or a competitors product VP for example.

Been doing some research. I'm gonna go for the SSD scale knuckles and cHubs and wait for their CVDs. That should give me 50 dig of steering which is plenty. And my VP links should all fit.

A bit late to this party but have a quick q:

For Ax10 axles, the beef tubes are used for strengthening and better location then the c hubs sit on the v grooves formed on the stub.

But some of the pics show a beef tube with a splined end - can this be used and the stub end just cut off? Or have I misunderstood here?

Thanks...

We have them in stock Also, there are several other good CVD's on the market now.

Rokloski's Berg CVD's will work great and are bullet proof

The splined end tubes are designed to replace the existing piece that the stock hub fits on. For a narrower track width for tucking tires or keep it some what narrow for sorrca rules or courses with narrower gates. I don't think you have miss understood anything. ;)

THIS.

Honestly it makes me want to go to 8mm (ofna) shafts and be done with it. At least with that option I can buy from multiple OEM's and make it work. Axial products have quite the propensity for going out of stock everywhere a few months before major comps. A few years ago ALL of their ring and pinions went out of stock everywhere.

It would be super spiffy if VP would step up and make a universal shaft out of quality materials.

I hear there are new SSD axels on the way. So potentially we can just buy their SCX10 knuckles hubs and axles wich would provide a lot more steering. And it's all bolt on with existing links.
