It did add a significant amount of drag on the side gears when I put an axle in and tried to turn it. I will put this in the Comanche diffs and see how well it works like a real Limited Slip Differential. (see pics below)

Im curious how these work Im thinking about putting one in the front of mine. What are you using the O-rings for?

He said somewhere that it slipped way too often. but I think a stiffer spring would do greater good

Yes, one in the front might be a cool idea. I tried them in both the front and rear but as light as these rigs are there was just not enough traction. As might be expected, it turned super smooth with no bind at all as compared to lockers, but no good for low traction runs, etc. A lot of RC trucks come with an open diff in the just the front and do quite well that way.

I never had a chance to try it out since I pulled them both out at once.

The O-rings are to keep dirt, etc. out of the diff. they seal on the axle as you can see in the diagram.

BTW, I don't think the spring I added really did much to help limit the slip.

Happy trails.

Okay, well I ordered the parts and will see what I can work out maybe a combination of really thick grease and the spring will help. I have worked on 1:1 LSDs and may apply some stuff to these little diffs. Very cool build BTW.

Well my diff gears got here today. I did the same thing with the spring but I stuffed extra o-rings on each side of the side gears, and it seems to act like a real limited slip. I also packed it with wheel bearing grease. In the front axle It seems to wheel a lot more like a 1:1.

Hey there.

I also have a real (1:1) Cherokee. That is what I copied for my RC version.

I started with an Axial SCX10 (Dingo - builders kit) for the chassis, and a Pro-line Cherokee body, both from tower hobbies. I joined their super saver club for $9.99 and save a lot on purchases from them. (just have to order stuff together to save more)

I use RC4WD now quite a bit for trick stuff. They make some really amazing RC truck parts.

Also RPP Hobby is a great place to get RC stuff and they also carry a lot of RC4WD parts, as well as many other vendors.

Happy Building!

Thanks. I assume you mean the Comanche, or were you referring to the Grand Cherokee.

Yeah it seems to work great. It drives a lot more like a real truck. Rather than making it over everything.
