Default SCX10 Drone

So it was raining today and I decided to do something a little different for fun. I'm sure this has been done before.

I mounted an old iPhone and headlamp on my SCX10. I used an app called Airbeam to stream the video back to my laptop. Kind of like a drone I could drive around my apartment remotely without actually being able to see the truck.

My Wife scattered household items around to make it more of a challenge.

Here is a link to the video:

And here is the set up:

That's sweet. There is a system out there that has heads up display glasses, and the camera is mounted on a swivel that allows for head tracking, I.e when you look around with the glasses on, the camera moves accordingly. I'll see if I can find a link.....

EDIT: check this...

Thanks guys, just a little indoor fun. I've always wanted to try this with an airplane too. Yeah Fernando how cool would that job be, playing with those toys...I mean robots. Willie it's a Ram Mount (RAM Mounting Systems, Inc.) they have everything. I use them for all my 1:1 toys (boat, motorcycle, cars).

I played around with connecting the iPhone to the laptop directly with wifi instead of going through my home network. The speed was much faster, so I could crank up the camera quality. My main point was to see if it could be done in the field with no network. Not sure what kind of range it would have though.

Steele, Contour cameras do that stock. I have a DriftHD, it has a little LCD. I love mixing hobbies!

We may have to move this to a different area soon...haha

details on this please. sounds like ad hoc but if you have a simple way of doing this, it would be much appreciated.

Yep exactly, with a OSX you can create an ad hoc network with the laptop by clicking the WiFi icon > Create Network. The IOS devices, in this case an iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 4 see it as a regular network. Just pop in the password and viola you are directly connected and the speed is fasssst.

I may have taken this too far. Now i have 2 iPhones, front and rear view

The trick now is to push a kleenex box through the apartment in the dark. It helps that I just got led headlights installed. Oh boy..I need friends...

I gotta be honest, it might be kinda fun. It can be challenging, but it kinda feels more realistic because of the POV.

LOL! very cool! i think i read that there is a native OSX airbeam app? all my machines are win7 at the moment so I'll probably have to use the browser viewer.

...and I spend enough time with friends. tinkering time is my therapeutic alone time. LOL! thanks for the tips.
