Default And now for something completly different...

Not really a crawler, but SCX based none the less.

I needed a break from my Dingo build, so I dug into my spare parts
and built me up a dedicated mud/sand pit, straight line dragster.
Still crawls a little though. The Shock travel is very limited to
avoid body scrub and torque twist. Might even do some pulling with it,
so I guess Ill have to build myself a sled. LOL

I wanted a little practice painting too, so everything is done from the inside, window/side trim, ghost flames etc... I'm putting in a pic of
the masks because the camera didnt pick up the flames very well,
and it will show you where to look for them.
Still need to cut out some Chevy bow ties for the front grill and
rear panel, because I just didnt think of it while I was painting it up.

A few specs:

TCS X-Trail chassis
Cut down STRC 30* angled links (10.5" wheel base)
Pegasus 64' Chevy Impala Low Rider body
Stock gears/gearing with 20t pinion
Stock shocks
customized body mounts

stock tires for sand
Panther paddle tires on Axial 8 hole 2.2 rims for mud

Temporary testing electrics:
Axial AS1 servo, AE1 ESC, and stock 27 turn silver can.

I figure I might drop in a Traxxas BL combo since they are cheap
and water proof (ish) and a better servo after I burn this one up,
but as a spare parts build I dont want to spend too much.
It will cost me enough just to build a mud and sand pit
in the back yard........

>>>> Special thanks to BubbaEinstein for making me up a bunch of
bomb proof tow shackles. I think it will be a BLAST if I get stuck in the
mud pit to winch myself out with one of my other rigs!!!!

And a few pics with the Panthers mounted:

I will, I just bought myself a new HD camcorder just for the RC stuff,
but with the motor and electrics in it right now its so slow
I dont think it could even roost bone dry sand LOL LOL

Looks mean as hell pounding down the trails tho

I may take it down to the volley ball court this afternoon
and get a few short movies, just to see what happens......

If they turn out OK, ill post 'em up.

Its NOT intended as an FOFF rig. Too high and top heavy, (with only a 10.5" wheel base)
for the vertical stuff I think. Its just for FLAT mud and sand pits, plus a little pulling.
More like a red neck monster/mud truck based on the TCS X-Trail frame for the AX10...

I have a dedicated FOFF rig, and Im putting the panthers on it
right now to go back out to the volly ball court so I have something to compare it to the vids of the Impala I just took.

Those vids are uploading to youtube right now,
but their hi-def and it will take a bit.

brianw, I LOVE the Cobras. Sometimes I will find a spot
where the Panther deep dish paddles make it too easy,
and these tires work better on harder surfaces.
Plus they will spin a little easier and toss a TON of dirt around for
cooler vids.

Here is the link for the first Impala test vid, but like I suspected,
the motor/electronics are weak and it needs a brushless system.
It barely tuned up any dust off the line......

For what it's worth, agree you needing more power. I can see in my mind big rooster tails coming of those tyres when it launch's under power

Will look very cool.

Pull the power system out of the slash lol! Not sure how long the drivetrain would last but it would be badass while it did!!!

I like it.

Believe it or not, I was in Holland, Michigan once and saw a 57 Corvette on some kind of custom built frame with big off road wheels and tires. This build kind of reminds me of that.

I ended up getting a Castle Mamba Max Pro/4600kv combo to put in this thing, and BOY does it turn up the dirt now!

It could go a bit faster, but I used a 14t pinion to keep the torque up and heat down.

Since its going to get dusty and muddy, but not be a total submarine
type runner, I decided to fab up a box for the electrics that has an intake and exhaust stack with Nitro engine filters.

A bigger Radio Shack project box and a few common size medicine
bottles did the trick because they fit the filters I had on hand.

The one stack sits down tight over the ESC fan, so no matter if it blows out or sucks in, it will still push the air through.
Just had it out for a hard run, and believe it or not the ugly thing kept
everything cool and dust free....

The two extra plugs coming out are an AUX for a light system or whatever, and a Castle Quick-Connect for the ESC programming so I dont have to break the box seals every time I want to change settings.

Now I just need to build me a mud pit out in the back yard.
I figure a couple of 12 foot 2X6's 2 feet apart with some heavy plastic should do the trick so I dont have to dig any holes.

Some pics and a vid....

Thanks Folks!

I wasnt sure about the air flow idea, but figured if it didnt
work all I had to do was use un-cut caps to seal it off,
but I could still open them up once in a while to let the heat out.
But oddly enough, it works pretty well....

Im still a little shy about switching to lipo, but eventually I am sure I will.
Up to now, I have just incoroprated the extra weight of the nimh batts
to my advantage for crawling and for traction, but for a rig like
this or my FOFF, I could sure use a lighter power source.

Still pulls the front end up tho, and thats with the 7 cell batt mounted
up front. That was after the sand run too, so the batts were near dead.

I havent beefed up any of the drive train yet. Running in the soft sand
limits the torque on things, but if I keep doing wheelies and stoppies
things are going to start snapping quick.

Truck Nutz, huh Bubba? LOL, I like it!!
Might be my next casting project. But you know me, Ill have to make them HUGE and fixed solid
so I can put small rollers on the under side and use it for a wheelie bar...
