Fink's SCX10 Honcho

I figured it was about time I posted a build thread.

This is my first crawler so I will likely take it slow and just do the usual mods until I get more comfortable with it.

Started out with the Axial SCX10 Honcho RTR (AX90022). Ran it as it was for a while and then decided it needed some 2.2s. The performance gain with these things is just incredible! Almost makes it too easy sometimes!

Here's just a hodgepodge of pics as I started upgrading things.

Installing the 2.2s and the Axial aluminum links...

http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-dmbW...dmbW9NH-XL.jpg

Test fitting the body to see how much I would need to trim...turns out it was a ton...

http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-7BrD...7BrDktq-XL.jpg

Then I had to see how much I'd have to trim the bumper. I ended up going the route that Axial did when they put 2.2s on their Honcho.

http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-wRGC...wRGCGDW-XL.jpg

Ended up trimming out the entire front quarter panel. I could have left a little bit of a lip, but it would have looked a little strange.

It still rubs slightly at the bottom of the doors but only when it's really stuffed.

http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-FMNd...FMNd2hX-XL.jpg

Then I finally got the bumper chopped and the edges cleaned up. One of these days I'll get a custom-made tube bumper bent up.

http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-WXjm...WXjmJRb-XL.jpg

http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-V67P...V67PH7w-XL.jpg

Then I finally added the scale stuff I got from Pro-Line in addition to a couple of the extra light buckets that came with the RTR. Will eventually get working LEDs in them.

Also added a 2ft length of jack chain (1/10th scale 20' tow chain).

http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-5Z9W...5Z9WKct-XL.jpg

After all of that I ballooned the electronics and that's really all I've done so far.

Here are some shots from a few meets we've had...

Future mods:
-Holmes Hobbies BR-XL ESC (on my bench awaiting new motor)
-Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster Pro 540 (on its way)
-Savox Steering Servo
-Aluminum Universals/Knuckles

Thanks for looking - feel free to give your input, positive or negative!

I actually like the stance it has now better than it would with the Wroncho look. Those axles are just too wide!

This is also the way I have justified the purchasing of a Wraith in the next few months.

Not trying to derail from your truck. Here's my set up for winter. 2.2 Pit Bulls on RPM wheels I widened to 3.25"s. Prowlerstroke scaler 90mm shocks, raised bumper and lengthened the front wheelbase. Only rubs at full steer and articulated. Icelandic Style!!!

Love those Icelandic trucks!

Finally got my BR-XL and HH TorqueMaster Pro installed today. Love it! I think I may need to swap the motor wires though, seems I have more punch in reverse than forward...

Reset your esc and that may help with the forward and reverse problem. It did for me.

Thanks for the suggestion. The BR-XL is brand new and was just installed last night with the motor so I don't know if resetting it would really do anything.

I have yet to really get it out on the trails to see how it feels. Just going back-and-forth in my man cave it seemed like reverse was smoother and had more punch - it also makes a slightly different sound when under throttle.

No big deal - I'll get it figured out.

Finally broke down and got all aluminum steering components from Axial. Pretty standard stuff but I'm going to go ahead and post it here to help chronicle my build.

I was surprised how clean the front axle was even after months of swampy, nasty water. Marine grease FTMFW!

Rear axle will be getting some loving tonight - will post up when I'm done.

I was hoping nobody would see....

I do hit them with some oil before heading out, but we run in the water a lot so it only lasts so long. I picked up some water-resistant silicone spray this weekend from Ace that I'm going to give a go. If that doesn't cut it, I'll put my MIPs in and just hit them every 20 minutes or so while I'm out on the trails.
