| RC4WD TracGear poor fit??
I just bought two of the RC4WD Trac Gears for my SCX10. When I installed them, the axle case halves did not fit together very well. I took them apart again, checked to make sure the bearings where seated properly, and the gear teeth where properly meshed. I reassembled the axle, mounted it in the truck (yes the gears were well greased), and took the truck out to test it. The axle was VERY bound up. It's so tight, it preloads the suspension before it moves. The truck moves, but it really does not want to. Does anyone have experience with this gear set? Also, RC4WD, in the description, said the gears may be noisy at first, but will quiet down over time. Thanks in advance guys. |

Sounds like the gears are rubbing the diff housing. I know nothing about this, but just in case, check the diff housing, and look where the spur sits, maybe it left a mark?

I looked at the rc4wd tracker gear spool locker thread in the related threads on the bottom, and it sounds like that happens with every one, and it just needs some "break in time"

Are you absolutely sure that your mesh between the ring and pinion isn't too tight? I know they are a bit tighter when new but they shouldn't be causing so much resistance as to not want to move and preload suspension.

I'll take it apart tomorrow if I get a chance. When I was assembling it, it felt as if the bearings (which fit before) did not want to 'pop' into place. I'll check to see if it is rubbing, and post whatever else I find out. I read the other thread, as well. Hopefully the gears just need some 'break in'.

It seems there is no room for the ring gear in the axle. I had to loosen the case screws up to the point that they are just snug, now the rear end moves as it should. The RC4WD ring gear is a bit bigger than stock.

Are there shims in your axle?
