Default newb needs help to get my crawler going again

i am pretty new to the crawler side of RCs. i have found that i like it alot but that there are a ton of different options out there for almost everything.

my current setup is
SCX10 honcho
all metal links
four link
lift
bigger tires
alot of weight in the tires
junfac driveshafts
and on order a aluminum gear box
running 2s lipo

my problem is i just smoked the stock 27t motor. i bought a 45t novak from a local hobby shop and returned it withing 10 min. i didnt like how slow it was and it didnt have much torque at all.

so my question is, What is a good motor with alot of torque but still gives me the wheels speed of the 27t?

quick pic of my rig with a free body i got

I would go with a Holmes Hobbies TourqueMaster 35t. Im sure there are other options out there that will work though. 35t motors seem to have the best of both worlds , pretty good wheel speed and good torque.

The higher number of turns the higher the torque/lower the speed. Keep that in mind. Find a happy medium. For me, I never go higher than 35 turns - higher=too slow too boring, at least on 2s or normal capacity NiHM or NiCad (yeah I still got some - really good ones too -they don't die)

I have the tekin 35HD in my scx, and I love it.. can't imagine the Holmes being much better (I have one on order, so I guess I'll find out!) But I hear that they are THE cralwer motor. My 35T tekin with stock gearing and 2s lipo is super tourqey, and quick enough when I need it to be. I'm sure you will be happy with either!

If your expecting it to be as fast as the stock 27t you'll be dissapointed.
I also run the hh torquemaster 35t and altho it's not a rocket it has decent
Wheel speed the excellent low speed control and good torque. I'd assume the
Tekin 35t would be close. Just don't expect it to be fast. Another option
If you want a toquey faster motor would be a traxxas 21t. I run one when i
Wanna mess around in the water/mud. Cheap motor with power ha.

from the little research i have done it seems the tekin is a good motor, if i want more wheel speed i will mess around with different gears next.

i was going to try doing dual axial 27t so i could get the wheel speed and torque but i didnt want to buy a new esc to handle the two motors.

I ran a Tekin 35T HD until I found a sweet deal on a HH handwound 35T. I would still have the Tekin if not for the great price on the HH. I think they are both great motors. You'll get better support out of John Holmes if problems arise though. Another thing to consider is the ESC. It's like going from 87 to high test in your vehicle.

If you want a good heavy billet wide wheel, Motoworx has some excellent choices. If you want narrower, lighter billet wheels, LockedUp RC has some great prices.
