Default few problems with chassis mounted servo and steering

here is some pictures of the steering the way it came on my truck. I want to know if it was installed right. I didn't install it so not sure. Seems like a solid set up but it limits the articulation.. so is this right?

Next up is my dingo. I bought used axial high steer knuckles and new aluminum steering linkage set.. Main link seems to be too short. So anyone know the right link?? here's a few pictures of both trucks.. any help would be great thanks

The axial high steer knuckles dont work with CMS kit well at all because it puts the draglink at a different angle to the panhard bar, which causes bumpsteer and binding. You need to keep both bars at the same angle and as close to the same length as possible. I have the hand bros CMS kit with regular knuckles (with the tierod mounted above the arms)and my setup works perfectly

The CMS is proper and it will limit it a bit. You can put a slight bend in the panhard link to help resolve it. As of the linkage im sorry, ive made everything custom and not sure of length.

For giggles, try taking the panhard off

With my RC4WD CMS, there's so little body roll and bumpsteer I don't run a panhard, and it cycles fine

So you are using the servo not only as a steering device but also to locate the chassis relative to the front axle? In a bind the servo will just shove the chassis/body around and not turn the tires, i cant see how that works well in the least

The links locate the axle. At least that's how I see it

I've never had a problem with high bind situations. I have nothing crazy done to my CMS. It's installed how it should and it works just fine. Maybe I'm on to something

The Rc4wd cms is just the frame mount and drag link. You use the existing stock 3 link.

Ive never even seen the rc4wd cms i figured it would be like the hand bros. setup, oops. Been so long since my truck had the stock upper link setup i forgot about the goofy y link upper. However if you have the hand bros. or any true 3 link setup with a panhard bar and remove it, the servo will just shove the chassis around, the panhard locates the axle. Sorry for the confusion

Best pic off RC4WD site

I assumed all CMS are set up the same, so didn't realize that some were different

I ran the HB CMS kit on my scx10 for a year without issues.

There is a slight limitation, but not enough to drastically effect performance.

I have not had much luck with RC4WD in the past.

The hand bros. cms is the way to go. You just need the regular height steering knuckles to make it work the best. You could mount a custom tierod on the underside of the knuckles that is bent to clear the front diff if you want to keep the highsteer knuckles. IMO i would run a axle mounted servo WAY before i ran that rc4wd cms

What's wrong with RC4WD's? I've had no problems with it. I love it

mine is a homemade setup with a bent to hell pan hard. it works fine. i get a little interference at the chassis side rod end and mount. i think every cms is going to limit something somewhere

The Hb CMS works fine with Hi steer knuckles, but the panhard bar will contact the diff housing when one side is flexed more then the other. This can be relieved by bending the panhard to clear diff, and adding a 2-3mm spacer to get it back to the correct length.
