RC4WD has a 2 speed version of their R2 trans if I remember correctly.

RC4WD has that new AX2 trans, based off the Wraith trans. Looks pretty bulletproof, though I've not had any hands on experience with it.

how fast you looking to go? i've got no exp. with multi-speed trans, but you could always skip a multi-speed tranny and put some faster electronics in there that still have good low-speed crawlability. something like a motor with less than 20t and 3s or 4s might do it. there is definitely a limit with how fast a scx10 can handle in terms of stability at speed.

how much are you willing to spend? because the summit is like $80 and the r2 is lke $130.

Rc4wd trans will fit the bill for you or the summit tranny with a custom mount. Traded my summit tranny+cradle a couple months ago, it does hang down and isn't meant for a 1.9 setup IMO. But man was it a bulletproof setup.

The one thing I don't enjoy about a 2spd altogether is not having the full rpm range at your trigger finger. Imagine you're stuck in a bind but need more wheelspeed past 1st gear, then the need to hit a button to get to 2nd gear was getting old. It is fun for the notoriety however...

I completely agree with you, Never really thought about it until now. I think the OP would have better luck with an electronics system that can handle more power. My SCX10 on 3s has more than enough wheelspeed to go mudding and rip around with (be warned higher speeds result in bigger hobbyshop receipts...), but having one gear allows you to run through the whole RPM curve much more smoothly then switching a gear halfway through.

Now a 2-speed FoFF... that's a new idea....

You can go brushless if you're looking for more ripping than crawling. Maybe try out a Vileneon system from a Rustler, Slash, Stampede, etc. if you wanna go fast. Keep in mind most brushless systems have a lot of "cogging" at low speeds, making them not the greatest choice for crawling. You're looking at at least 100$ for a cheap brushless sytem.

Integy brushed 35t motors can handle 3s, they are rebuildable and (when taken care of) waterproof. It's a very common combination and IMO this gives a great balance of torque and speed. Higher voltage always helps! Integy motors run about 30-35$ at my hobby shop

Or go and buy a stock Wraith Axial 20t motor. Not rebuildable but for 20$ its a faster, cheap motor.

For trail running, a castle motor can work and the 4pole options are very powerful. However if you plan to do any type of crawling, sensorless motors are not a good choice in general. It was frustrating for me anyway, for others it may not be an issue.

Get robbinson racing tranny gears.

If you beef everything up it should. Hardened diff gears, RR tranny gears, beef tubes, good bearings, aluminum lockouts/steering parts, upgraded axle shafts and pins, MIP drivelines, lots of loctite, etc and you should be good to go.

I see a lot of builds where there is usually a weak link purposefully left that way so THAT part breaks first. Example is a plastic spur gear which are inexpensive and will hopefully strip before you break expensive parts in the rest of the drivetrain.

few more questions about this set up..I got to use a honcho with the summit transmission and a dinky cradle.. seems to work pretty good with 2.2 tires. 1.9 tires use no ground clearance.. His honcho had a lift kit to clear Pro line TSL's. Truck seem very top heavy.. Didn't seem to climb too good at all.. I'm not sure of his motor was weak or there was a problem with the transmission. Say your climbing up something. need more wheel speed. Didn't shift the second gear. I would the like to have more speed and still be able to crawl to. Not sure that good medium is.. I was going to throw a brushless system in. Not really looking to upgrade the axles and transmission at this time.. also looking a bit. That's a good bit of money.. Seemed really top-heavy. If you did could shift from high and low easily seems like it would be a decent set up.. Still thinking on it. Not sure where to go thanks again guys

Seems like user operator error on the setup. There is a tad bit of tinkering required for the linkage setup. As well as the shift rod set screw. You should be able to slap into 1st and 2nd fairly easily with a proper summit+dinky cradle setup. A tad top heavy is expected, so build around it. Lowered/lighter lipo pack, lowered electronics etc.

And if it seemed underpowered then it might've been, seperate issue.
