And just because you are building a Honcho or Dingo doesn't mean you can't go into the 1.9 or 2.2 forums for your answers, probably 90% of the builds in there are Axial based. If your curious about something you see in a build ask or pm the builder for your answer...but not before you read the build thread. I have had quite a few folks shoot me pm's asking questions about something I did in a build and I always answer or tell them where to find it.

I don't really mind noob questions that much - you gotta start somewhere. It does get old when you see the exact same/similar questions being asked repeatedly though. To me, this just means that there is a flaw somewhere and we need a better FAQ sticky where all those questions have links to answers. Yes, it will take someone dedicated enough to make this happen, but it'd probably help. In terms of searching, people these days are just straight up lazy and want to be spoon fed. Gotta remember we're currently experiencing the "generation of entitlement" and common sense has gone right out the door when the Internet entered their lives as kids. Personally, I'm part of the last generation who didn't grow up with Internet until I was a teen, so common sense was an acquired skill during adolescence. Heck, even though I thought I knew to use Google because I was clever with my wordings, but I just recently learned about site-specific searches and it's totally changed the way I search! (example for "shocks" search on Google -- "site:rccrawler.com shocks" -- works amazing and less sorting through results) |

My wife and I were speculating the other day, what would happen if one day the internet disappeared. And how kids/people these days wouldn't be able to survive. I recently discovered some "advanced" search wordings for Craigslist, it's weird because I already knew them, just never thought to apply them to that site. I too grew up during the transition into the internet, I was in 6th grade when we got our first PC. Now I disappear to the garage to get away from the TV and boredom browsing on the computer. In the garage, it's just me, the radio, and whatever I decide to get into. LOL Now if I had a basement, for sure there'd be a PC of some sorts for browsing for ideas and what not.

I will Google everything. I can't recall how old I was when Gore invented the internet However, as a newbie, there are sometimes things I have to ask because I don't know what I'm looking for. Example would be anything computer related. I can only run programs. I don't know anything about how the program itself runs, so when I have computer troubles, I just ask. Sometimes it's obvious after someone says it, but because I didn't know what to look for, I honestly had no idea what to look for in a search |

9 time out of 10 thats what I do. Ill pm the builder or the person that has something I like or am interested in. And I have found google to be my friend when it comes to searching for topics. But if the topic that comes up is old, It shouldnt be a problem starting anew thread since theres constantly new products being released! Im not ranting or raving by any means, I, as well as most of us have probably all fallen short of the search button or google but I see what your saying...build threads keep you scrolling for more! Repeated questions keep you away lol Quote:

I'd rather bump the thread than starting a new one. Unfortunately, most people don't notice it's bumped and you have to spam your question until people see it

New to this forum and rc's, but not new to forums in general.. there is a very real problem with younger people who grew up with smart phones and instant answers. They are terrified of thinking for themselves and completely ignorant to doing something trial-and-error style. You just have to get used to wading past the crap posts of some dumb question that the user will probably never even so much as come back and read any replies. I'll add that 40 pages of a "newb guide" is useless except for bathroom reading. A lot of good knowledge, yes. But try finding X using google site search.. usually yields enough of a result from this site that you can get where you want to be. (sidenote: most people google like they talk.. "why do my shocks leak on my truck?" pretty sure that's vague enough that the first page will have a porn link on it somewhere) That said, probably 65% of what I've learned (which is quite a bit for only having the truck about a week) is from just getting out and burning some batteries. It isn't rocket science, though a basic understanding of physics and automobile logic helps. Maybe another 25% is from the forums.. that being solutions from someone's shared experience or at least a problem I can identify with. The other 10%? Well.. I'm pretty sure it's things I haven't even realized I'm doing wrong and should seek help with just yet.
