so i have been looking at this body for a long long time wanting to use it as a crawler. but the wheelbase was way to short and a bit narrow. since i got better at building cages i figured a simple caged rear would look alright with the body. i have everything planned out and hopefully i can finish it by sunday for the comp that we are having. here is how it is looking now figuring out body height. im going to use the cage for body mounts in the rear and the front bumper in the front. kinda like a press fit method. |

I will be following your build for sure. I have the same body on my dingo and just cut the rear wells out a little more so the tires would tuck. I was actually thinking of doing the same thing but I have not experimented with cages yet. I look forward to seeing how this progresses.

If you tube out the rear.. please leave it untreated/unpainted brake line so it rusts up like a rat rod That would look great. Like this sort of feel, but with a rusty cage out the back. I've wanted to do a build like this for a while... Last edited by Arctic Fire; 10-02-2012 at 06:19 PM. |

This is the route I was thinking with a flat bed but can't wait to see yours with a tubed rear. 4x4 trucks pics - Rat Rods Rule - Rat Rod, Rust Rods & Hot Rods, Photos, Builds, Parts, Tech, Talk & Advice since 2007! |

| Re: 57 chevy beater truggy been thinking about the rusty look. just not fully sure how to paint the body to get the multi shades of rust.. been thinking about trying the salt method... already did the scratching paint on my xj. i was kinda leaning towards a flat black primer with some rust splattered in

got most of the cage work done tonight. i have to redo the rear body mounts. just a little to the left. the cage is nothing special just basic. i dont trust my brazing skills yet to attempt shock hoops yet. it is brazed to the chassis at 6 points Last edited by toka100; 10-03-2012 at 01:10 AM. |

That looks great! I really like the flat black idea, Flat black and rusty tubes *side not, were you able to braze with everything attached to the frame? Or did you tear down and build up. Also, a nice stained pieceof veneer board or plywood might look nice to block the opening in the cab, it would sorta fit the theme especially with flat black ;) I'm excited about this build, can you tell? muriatic acid can be found at most any harware store... It's commonly used to clean pools or concrete

I think the rusty frame and cage will look great! I've never tried that method, nor have I seen too many (really any) rusty tubers on this site.

| Re: 57 chevy beater truggy not really happy with the front bumper. going to have some rubbing issues under full flex. i can deal with it. the body is high but not too high. the iroks are just so dam tall. i am liking all the room under the hood for the electronics. the flat black looks good. i think it does look like something you would see driving down the road heading to the mountains or a mud pit... This is looking great! Makes me want to take the scissors to mine tonight. How did you attach the body?

that is the stock kit link. with a bic pen tube over it to roll over rocks tube work is done for now. now to tear everything apart again to rust it out. im going to drop in a emaxx motor with a 14t pinion tomorrow and try it out before i rust it. i REALLY need to find a old axial cf-100 interior kit. just to really finish the look. Brilliant! Gonna use the bed to cover the rear and the rear fenders as front wells. I am now very motivated to do some changes to my 57. This hobby is so addictive.

I really like the look of this truck. Simple and burly at the same time. Good work.
