Scx Truggy Driveline Headaches & Issues..!

so lately ive had the headache of my driveshaft set screws backing out enough for the pinion to spin in the yolk and eventually just lose the shaft completely is there any solution to this? im using the stampede half shafts with the hardened steel yolks loved em on my creeper and i just transplanted my drivetrain over to my scx i was wondering for any of you traxxas guys if drilling a whole all the way through and using the set screw stud like on the slashs driveshafts? (link below) idk know guys i need a solution quick i cant even wheel for 15min without having to stop and retighten, yes ive used locktite and yes ive used the ol' dab o' super glue trick and still nothing :cry:

I'm not sure what diameter the stampede shafts are but you could use a retainer ring (or make one with a brass compression sleeve)

A set/cap screw on opposing sides has worked for me on the single flat diff input/trans output. If your inputs/outputs have the thru hole its best to use them.

You could use wraith ring and pinions, the have a hole in the pinion shaft. Eliminating the setscrews is the only way to cure losing shafts. I think you can get drilled trans outputs as well. Ive got doubled up set screws and they loosen up every time i run the truck, loctited or not

^^exactly what happens to me everytime and its annoying as hell i run a good line and ill see my front end stop spinning in a bind, i have BOTH set crews one on each side of the yolk and still doesnt hold, maybe drilling a small pit in the ring and pinion like a set screw hole a millimeter or 2 deep just to keep em in, if not im gna drill through it,

anyone know how to use a punch on the pinion without breaking it? i already know the bits going to run

The problem may lie with the m3 set screws. Have you tried button heads instead?

On mips with conical tipped m4 set screws, haven't lost a driveshaft in years. The 2mm drive for the set screws allows for a lil more torque to be applied.

^^never thought about it but yes that 1.5mm allen wrench strips way to fast

I use high end tools so im getting them relatively tight but if you even dimpled the pinion shaft i bet it would help quite a bit. I never tried a screw but that could be an option. My MIP shafts just arrived today so im anxious to see how much better they hold. If they still loosen up ill just take the r+ps out of my wraith and use them

^^see i didnt know they fit in there but i think ill try the dimples, AND drilling out the yolks to fit M3x5mm button head screws? what size of drill bit do i use for m3..? :shock:

3mm=.118"

For normal stuff I use an 1/8" (.125") drill bit. Not sure if you'd need a tighter tolerance than that though.
