Wanting to get atleast 10 mph but I don't want to lose torque.I sometimes run smaller tires.

what type of battery are you running? in general, volting up will give you more top-end without sacrificing low-end torque |

perhaps someone in the past/future has put a radar gun on an scx10, but a stock rtr rig with 2s will get up to about a jogging pace, which is only around 6mph i'd guess. if you truly want some speed and some crawlability, you need to ditch the axial motor and get a quality motor on minimum 2s LiPo, but 3s will be much faster and more to what you want. i'd look at upgrading to something like a HH motor - his motors generally give more torque for the #turns it's rated compared to other brands - so a 27t HH would have torque like a 35t axial motor, but will have much more speed because less turns. perhaps look at less than 27t for more speed with current setup. upping voltage to 3s will give even more speed to the #turns. i'd recommend you look at some of the builds for some of the go-fast crawlers others have built on RCC to see what people are running and to get some tips. a wraith drivetrain setup might be more to what you need since they generally go much faster with their electronics and gearing setups (also because they have larger tire diameter) keep in mind that with all this extra speed you want to achieve, you can expect to start breaking lots of things that are not yet upgraded, so be prepared |

You'll want the Harden Diff gear and the idler gear. Depending on tranny you might also need the Output drive or the Axial upgrade one that comes with the Dingo. Last edited by juswin24; 10-20-2012 at 12:21 PM. | |

Another option to consider is a two speed. I have one in my TF2. It is one of my favorite things about it. Low speed is slower then the axial setup and the high speed is definitely faster. Kind of best of both worlds. I have not run an Axial with a two speed yet (I have 4 SCX's), but after getting a TF2 this summer. I may put a two speed in one or more of them. I think there are a few manufacturers that make two speeds for the SCX. There is the Traxxas 2 speed conversion that people have been doing for a long time. But I think I recently saw a RC4WD 2 speed bolt in for the Axial. I am sure there are others out there. You could have a nice low gear for crawling and a high gear for bombing around. |
