| Pro 4 vs scx4 vs something cheaper?
I'm looking for a motor for my SCX10.It will be a little on the heavy side with all the steel and aluminum parts and hard body so i need a motor with a little more torque and power than a brushed 27t - 55t.At first i thought 550 size would do but i've noticed some people use the Tekin pro 4.How does this compare to the Tekin scx4 550?I know kv and i can figure out the gearing but which would work better?I'm looking for some crawling ability and enough wheelspeed to gun it up some sandhills and enough torque to handle all the weight. At the moment i have a 2c lipo esc but i may get a 3c capable one if need be.Would a cheaper motor like a Trinity Amber or something be too low on torque?Any help would be appreciated.

another option if u can pick one up used like i did. waterproofed and all. only issue was limited space. that and it blew up in my 1/8 scale truggy later on. never had an issue with it in the honcho. other then the gearing was set. i couldnt change it. im sure it would have given both of those trucks a run even on 2s Last edited by toka100; 10-19-2012 at 08:50 AM. |

I've run HobbyWing gear in my rigs before with a lot og success. I have 3 of their ESC and 2 motors. This new SC8 ESC is completely waterproof and dust proof. 120 amp and will run up to 4s LiPo. The ESC and motor combo is awesome with a 4pole brushless motor and digital program card. I would look into it and check it out on YouTube and some one runs the ESC and motor in the kitchen sink while completely under 12" of water. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note (Phablet) |

Another suggestion is the Tenshock SC411 3500kv. I replaced a Pro4 in my Wraith with one. The SC411 is a 550 4-pole. It's also about $40 cheaper than the Pro4. |

Does the Hobbywing combo have a drag brake? Or is it strictly a racing/bashing motor.

The HobbyWing ESC has a programmable drag brake. The motor is NOT censored but seems to run pretty well. Do some google searches or YouTube searches for HobbyWing SC8 ESC.
