| wanting a winner... xj build thread
Hi guys, been here for a while an never got to a thread for my xj.. so I thought it time to start. Started with a scx-10 dingo rtr used for 200$ Specs as is.. Scx-10 chassis with a proline Cherokee body, with a proline interior.. Scx-10 tranny with RR steel idler, HR hard aluminum diff gear an steel output shafts.. Scx-10 axles, front has beef tubes, axial cvd's, axial aluminum clocked chubs, an high steer knuckles with home brew knuckle weights. Rear has ud gears, aluminum lockouts. Riding on 4" big bores with Lcc white springs. The front has 3level racing lift kit an the rear has a limiting strap, to give it a level ride height an all the articulation I could want! Metal bumpers, an sliders by Ryan(axialjeepster) @ bent metal works Electronics.. HH hand wound 35t Fx-r with a 25v 1000uf 125* capacitor Cc bec set @ 6.1v running a hobbico cs-170 aluminum hd horn Spektrum rx wraith lights setup Tires an wheels Rc4wd limited mesh Cherokee wheels CI triple stage foams Wrapped with pitbull rock beasts I think that's it.. now for a few pics to run you thru. Few parts I got from the for sale section, once I got it all around, I started to build. Had to cut the lowers an stretched the uppers with creeper link ends an spacers Original setup with the integy 35t. Bec an rx in the box an the fx-r waterproofed Ready to run.. Then I got my xj body an some aluminum wheels.. Switched to Rc4wd scale shocks Had some good articulation with them, a little sticky feeling, not what I Would call smooth.. A little fun with the boys.. Then I got some 4" big bores an had Lcc white springs to try out. Now this is what I was looking for! Also started tinting the back windows. New bumpers, sliders, winch, an tires.. That's it for tonight.. more to come an the best to see. |

Getting ready for the second comp I added lights.. A couple from the comp My inspiration.. my wifes 95 xj.. before the 6" old school rubicon express lift an 32x11.50. I saved the lift an wheels from my 88 limited edition xj. I'll get a pic of it when it stops raining.. 3-4 days straight now. So my next move was wheels an interior.. Oh they are sexy! Rc4wd limited run, xj mesh wheels.. broke in right. Next round of pics from the 3rd comp.. Last edited by winnerone23; 11-01-2012 at 02:22 AM. |

Real life reason... A little to hard on my custom bumper by Ryan @ Bent metal works.. (axialjeepster) Which is ok, cause Ryan stands behind his work an came up with this for me.. I decided it stuck out in a way I wasn't ready for so it was mounted farther back for a clean look.. Comp pics to come.. I'm keeping this in a time line from start to now.. |

Got pics from the rausch creek comp 3, which was the day before my 30th bday... Which was a great day, mom kept the kids so the wife an I could go spend the night before the comp, it was also the day the wife granted her want for me to have/build a Xr-10! told me my shafty just wasn't good enough to win in the pro class! Anywho.. the xj was top notch! Was the only one to run 3 perfect courses at the comp! That was at the comp, Then my sister made me a rock crawling cake.. once I get pics loaded, ill post up. |

Thanks guys Brock, I sure will let her know! I asked her to do my comp rig next, she told me this one drained her talents an patience! Cause of that she says I'm not getting one next year. She's a bit of a perfectionest.. lol Ok on to some carnage pics.... I went hiking at the grand canyon of Pa.. not as exciting as I thought it would be but ended pretty nasty! When I got to the bottom, I switched out to my comp rig, found a knife in the stream, the back to the xj to head back up. This is how far I made it.. the board walk at the bottom, I'm pointing at.. not only is that were I made it from but that is also were the xj stopped from were I'm standing! It seemed like for ever, prolly only took it a min or so tho.... Straight down! Bounce, roll, crash, slam, smash! :( After the first second, that I realized it was goin, I got over it an watched the fun happen! Let me tell you, if you never watched a rig down over a thousand foot wreck... IT IS SWEET! To watch... Just yet it once.. lol.... The worst part is goin all the way back down to get it.. All in All, not so bad.. It's amazing what a bumper from Bent metal works, will take! Front bumper, not a problem, sliders took all the abuse thrown at them, an the rear bumper "Bent" but didn't break! Some great metal work by Ryan (axialjeepster) For what I got to watch as it made its way down the canyon, and now I got everything straightened out... I'm very impressed with my xj an axial for having such an abusable rig for all of us to beat on.. |

I fixed the xj, straightened the chassis, rear bumper, the busted link ends, an swapped out to of the big bores as one of them had a bent shock shaft. While I had it apart, I did a front 4 link an a cms and a new drag link. Went to Crawltober fest an did a g6. After the g6 I crawled some of the comp rig courses, which lead to a stripped tranny diff gear.. it was my last plastic gear to replace.. well, I replaced it last night now that my xr is "done".. hahaha... Now that the body is off, I'm goin to get some under the skirt shots and some of the simple upgrades an setup that I have done. |

Ok guys an gals, a little love from Bent metal works.. by far exceeded my expectations on this set! Some goodies to go with them.. Pullpal an shovel.. the pullpal is sick! Sturdy an grooved for rope an rocks.. A little rear bumper action.. as always, out of square stock an beef! Now for the steller work! The front bumper, it is up high an tight for max approach an clearance. It has six bends in the square stock an perfectly semetrical! I'll get some pics posted as soon as I get it all mounted up. |

Just stumbled on your thread, nice Jeep! I too have a Cherokee on my scx, and I'm wondering what you used for headlight and tailight lenses when you added the lights? Thanks!!

Nice story so far . Looks like you definitely have an addiction going there. Glad your family supports it. The cake was an awesome touch. I saw an article online about someone making a cake shaped like a Jeep. It was an incredible task. Very complicated. There are many things to overcome to get it to hold shape and stay together. Much harder then I would have ever thought. You sis deserves a lot of credit for that. Great Bday gift for sure!
