Default New Axial Honcho!

After watching countless videos, and the guys at my lhs i had to have one!The other day i saw a few rtr's getting dropped off so i picked one up for a great price.I see many people like to mod them as soon as they get home. This is the newer version with the rip saws, better driveshafts ect...Any weak spots to address on this version?Only problem i had was the wheels were VERY hard to rorate by hand,i've ran it about 15 min. and it seems to roll much better now.

Haha, Axial got another one, welcome to your new addiction!

Replacing the transmission gears/outputs with Robinson Racing gears is a good start.
Then front Knuckles, CHubs and I highly recommend Beef Tubes for the front axle.

I was in the same situation, I got the RTR because I had to have one! I love mine. I would suggest hit the trails/rocks and have fun, then you will notice what needs to be upgraded or fixed.

Well you Have To Think In Order To Turn One Wheel You Also Are Rotating three Other wheels, across,Axel gears,Transmission And The Motor. It Will loosen up Some After The Parts Get Worn In.

I would personally stick with the plastic skid as aluminum tends to gouge up easier and seams to stick to rocks. I would look at upgrading all the plastic links and possibly getting a second job lol.

Well enjoy your new toy. You should see if you can find a group local to you to do some trail runs.

Yeah, get out on the trails with it. Find a local group if you can. Trail trucking can be a very social thing. Some light competition, but mostly everyone is out to talk trucks and have some fun.

Axial!
The skid is one of the few things still stock on my trucks.

You can make your own upper, lower and steering links with Threaded Rod, Aluminum/Steel tubing and Traxxas Rod Ends.

Unless you have a specific build in mind, you really should just run it, see how it does, see if anything breaks and upgrade as needed. A lot people upgrade just to upgrade, which is fun, but not totally necessary. The first thing you should do is get the battery as low as possible and remove the bump stops on the shocks. These two free mods will make a big difference in handling. Oh, and with a brushed motor, locked axels and the super low gearing, the wheels should be somewhat hard to turn.

If anything upgrade the steering linkage as the plastic just flexes way too much IMO and you will lose some of your turning radius while on the rocks.

I just got mine a few days ago and the first thing I did was replace the tie rod with an aluminum one. other then that it seems to work pretty good.

Also every car I get I always replace all the connectors with Deans ultra connectors. Not super necessary but they do reduce resistance and look better.

How do the new style stock driveshafts hold up compared to the old ones?

Ive been running the new style driveshafts in my SCX10 now for a few months of HEAVY BEATING, on 3s LiPo, trail runs and 3 comps. Nothing broke yet in the driveshaft. Good quality part IMO.

Parts to replace in my opinion......

Steering Links (DIY Cheap)
Upper and Lower Front and Rear Suspension Links (DIY Cheap)
4 Link Front and Rear , extra parts available in box of RTR.
Stronger Servo and Castle BEC.

My honest opinion the Traxxas 2075 Waterproof servo is ok for basic crawling and trail running. But there are many different better options out there...all depends on budget really.

A BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit)
The Castle Creations 10amp BEC is the most popular addition when adding a High Voltage Servo like a HiTec or Savox.

Little more info on driving style and or type and location would help us give you better options.

I'll be doing moderate wheeling, not beating it hto death hardcore!I have a Stampede 4x4 VXL all decked out to handle high speed abuse!Honcho duty will be general trail cruising, climbing some hills, old creek beds ect....Not looking to spend a fortune at this time, just get a few basics that will make it a bit better.LHS has some GH alum. parts, are they decent?

I had one in my dingo, when I first got it. It did the job but I stripped the plastic gears pretty quickly. Gears are cheap, the traxxas rebuild kit is like $3.
Hitec has some waterproof servos. They cost significantly more.
