i was thinking 1 on both sides of the ring gear and 1 out by the axle end

It's a good idea for getting grease in but I prefer to do a tear down and inspect everything as well as get out all the dirt that finds it's way in. Not to mention, I do drive in water on a regular basis so that adds to the fun of maintenance. |

You could add a zerk fitting and then just pump it full of grease through that, maybe add just one to the center near the ring gear.

chino's right IMO. axle maintanence isn't just putting grease in there. you've got to CLEAN them. so yeah it would save you time in stripping down your axle to refill them with grease. but will it be the BEST WAY to maintain your axles?

I agree with Heine. The simple addition of a zerk or two would be nice and easy and maybe ok if you run in water and mud constantly. But it is best to take out the few extra screws and do a complete tear down. I usually do my axles once after the season (unless they have been run a ton). I have a bunch of rigs so none of them get run constantly. I do run in a lot of water and mud, almost every run includes it. But I sealed up the axle holes that can let stuff in. And I have never had an issue with lack of grease during teardown. I do oil all of the bearings after seeing water. Everything has held up great so far. but I do like the idea of a complete tear down to check gears and all. Won't take too long and its more fun time wrenching. I love working on the rigs as much as running them. I see nothing wrong with adding a zerk fitting and greasing up when u want. I just think that tear downs and visual inspection is the way to go on occasion for the best results. |

Putting grease on the ring/pinion is like an art for me, pumping grease into the housing or filling in every open air pocket with grease, doesn't appeal to me, no matter how goopy and sloppy the mud is |
