Default need gearing help please.

27t motor on 2s. What kind of gearing would everyone recommend.

Also what shock oil is everyone liking? Kit 30wt or is heavier oil the ticket. I think I used to run 55wt in my ax10 when I had that rig.

What's your truck going to be doing mostly? Trail running with a little bit of speed, mostly slower running, or just an all around truck with a mix of speed and good low end? Also what tires are you running.Because if you go up or down in sizes it'll change your overall gearing.

i run stock shock oil in my kit shocks but i got pro lines iam putting on my scx10 outa my 2wd slash (snapped it in half doing back flips over speed bumps.) i also put my vxl in it with 3s halls balls. but yeh the stock oil is good imo run it a bit and if u need to change it out never hurts to have different weights in the event u get other kits or wat ever. :P

1.55" steelies with 1.55 mudslingers tires.
trail running with some small course running. mostly just having fun. I got out a few months ago when my son was born but traded for a used ride last week.

also debating on filling the axles with grease like I did my last scaler. (waterproofing)

I personally would go with 84/20 that's 4.2 to 1. That'll give ya some low end torque and control with good wheel speed. Well good wheel speed for a 27t motor that is. But if you need more torque and can live with a little less wheel speed. I'd go with 84/18. That's 4.66 to 1 that'll give ya real good low end and OK wheel speed. But always watch your temps. What I always did was. If you can hold your finger on it for 5 seconds with out burning the crap out of yourself. Your good.BUT this is just me other guys may have a whole different idea. But I ran 84/20 for over a year on my 1.5's on a scx and never had a problem.

also looking to switch out gearing on my truck.

I just got it but I wish it was a little bit faster.

It traction rolls as it is stock but in a straight line I want some more speed. Its totally stock with an onyx 5000mah 7.2v.

84/18 would probably be a good stating point with the 1.9's.But that's me.I'm not a big gearing guru. But I've got my head wrapped around gearing pretty good.

yeah I don't need a foff truck but I want something that doesn't take 5 minutes to get across my yard.

any suggestions on brands for the gears themselves?

Seeing your not going to put some speed demon motor in it.48 pitch spur and pinion would be fine I'd say. Traxxas makes good cheap pinions and as for a spur any spur that's 48 pitch and 84 tooth will work. Traxxas also makes a 84 tooth spur. Their not metal and all bulletproof but for your motor and what your going to be doing I.d say the plastic spur will be fine.
