Default Gearing question!!!!

I have an scx 10 with ae-2, 2.2 tsl's, axial 55t motor, 20t pinion, and 87 spur. I just installed the tires and noticed a huge change in torque from the 1.9's. The motor is getting hot and seems very weak under load. I know its gotta be a gearing problem. I dont care about speed but I do want wheel speed and torque for mudding and crawling. What gearing do I need to run for for this setup?

Drop the 20t down. Maybe try a 16t.

Yeah I would drop down on the pinion as well ..could even try as low as a 14t with 87 spur and would suit the TSL's well...if your running 2s , you could always wire up an external BEC and run 3s problem solved

Can you explain the pros and cons of a lipo vs the other batteries?

I have very limited knowledge, but this is what I understand. Lipos can have a higher voltage (3s is 11.1 volt) so you get more torque and wheelspeed. Lipo's also run at full power until they are dead, unlike NIMH which slowly gets weaker and weaker until it is dead. Also, the more power allows you to not pull the throttle so hard all the time, which draws more power from the battery. So the lipo's tend to have a longer run time because you're not so hard on the throttle. Lipo's are like a kids dream come true when it comes to RC's. I have a 3S 3400mah lipo in my rig with a 55t motor and 14t pinion and 87t spur with 1.9 pitbulls and I will crawl nonstop for about 3 hours until I need to replace my battery (keep in mind I am a very slow crawler, rarely peg the throttle.)

I run twin 2200mah 3s nano techs and I can get about 3 hours but I'm heavy on the throttle. It's worth the upgrade it will show you another whole different side to your cars potential.

Whats the difference between 3s and 2s? More power? The 3s requires a bec if you are running ae-2, so thats all I would need to upgrade?

2s is 7.4v and 3s is 11.1v. You need a BEC with 3s because your servo wasn't built to run on 11.1v

wire in a castle bec and remove the center pin where you esc plugs into the rx. this is the power wire and you will no longer need it. not only will you be able to run 3s (11.1v) but it will wake your servo up a ton.

Does it matter what kind of servo or as long as its 7.4v its fine? Im running Hitec HS-646WP. So the BEC acts like a voltage regulator for the 3s so its safe for 7.4v applications?

The Bec will regulate voltage to your servo and you can change it with castle link that servo will run just fine
