Why red wire from ESC is out? I am asking because between my Tekin fxr/Savox servo and receiver I have LED controller(steering and braking lights)! Was wondering will they still work if I take that red out?I I run all on 3S and just got Castle Creation bec... i run without for months and was fine till you hit crawling between rocks... and servo gives up...

P.S. Sorry for asking in build thread...

The BEC will now power the RX, so you need to pull the red wire on the ESC to keep from damaging the internal BEC on the ESC.

Everything else will work as normal.

The ROC? I doubt it, I don't know that I am needing the extra power although it is always nice to have more. I am super happy with the 13.5 Redline.

Also, even the fastest ROC is slower than the 13.5t. I could obviously just regear but that's not the point!

Ahh, I see your point. I didn't realize that ROC is that slow. I figured it be like pro4 line, FAST 4 pole.

I'm thinking axial does not list the AE2 esc as 3S compatible as you have to run an external BEC with that configuration...
Sound about right?

What is your experience with longevity of the ESC on 3S Harley?

That is likely the case as I'm sure they would get questions about the BEC related issues.

I ran it in my Honcho for a long time before I stripped it down. I even ran it on 4s for awhile

Have you started stripping it down yet for new mods?
So want to see where you take this.

Not yet. It kind of depends on what VP decides on the axles. They have been working on them for so long that they have lot invested in them. So there is a chance that I'll be on the second batch. They sent me a teaser pic last night with 3 full sets in all the colors. They look incredible!

I'll be throwing the new wheels on soon no matter what. Also probably start working on lighting as well as paint.

Here is the downlow on the parts. Typically the FETs are 25v parts, I haven't cracked open the AE2 to see what they use. The caps are 16v rated. The BEC is tuned for use with 2s lipo or 7 cell nimh max. To run it on higher voltages requires a BEC to power the servo. When you run it on 4s the power caps get beat up, particularly on a fresh charge. It will reduce the ESC life dramatically.

3s is safe with an external BEC. 4s is riding the line of fire.

your right about the stock Axial stuff holding up my 3yr old so has run his Wraith for hours on end for the last week almost none stop and the only thing that has gone wrong is steering horn strip, Other then that Axial rigs hold up very well for stock stuff..

Can't wait to see this rig loaded up and decked out.....

Guess you didn't get video or photos of the destruction?
Thanks for the updates.

That is some great info right there! Thanks!
Gonna have to try out 3s now....

Now is it that the AE-2 will run on 3s with bad things happening, or is it that they can take the beating, Reason I ask is I've had 2 SCX-10's that I have tried on 3s, both ran fine, but had a fairly large heat buildup issue in the ESC, now I"m using them for rock crawling, not just ripping around. I find after 10 min max the ESC is so hot you don't want to keep your finger on it. Trucks in question were a honcho with a 27t Axial motor, and a Dingo with a 35T tin can motor. Both ESC's are still running perfect over a year later on 2s.

It depends on how you run it. Everyone's idea of being hard on something is different and rarely extremely accurate on how they describe it I have had no issues on 3s.

Ahh, Probably just driving style then, we run our scalers on similar courses to our comp trucks. So lots of bogging the motors, slow crawling up steep climbs etc. Lots of lugging up hills.

Anyways, back to the build, Looking for another scaler, and so far this looks like the way to go.
