nix scx10 build now with more d90 this is my first build. ive been lurking for a bit. im a bit new to the crawler thing ive had my scx10 for a few months and i am having a ton of fun with it. i got the dingo kit because i love to put things together. first outing http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...x10/file-2.jpg i wasn't a big fan of the ding body (joke coming) so i got the jeep Cherokee body as i had one back in the day as a winter beater. one of the few that i wish i still had. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...x10/file-3.jpg i then made my 1st bumper http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...x10/file-5.jpg jeep at the river http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...x10/file-8.jpg and in the wood http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-10.jpg killed the bumper. next new bumper quite a bit stonger http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-13.jpg the last photo shoot of the jeep http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-16.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-17.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-18.jpg |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 Hey there. Great looking rig man. I am still making payments on mine as i cannot afford to buy it outright at the time. but i did buy a cherokee body and paint it all up. i love cherokees lol. how did you go about building your bumpers? |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 ok so this is where the joke comes in. i had been looking in to hard bodies as i really like the whole scale look.. and as much as i didn't like the dingo body, i went out and got the d90 land rover hard body:roll:. i did a lot of building and painting models when i was younger so i figured i would give weathering a shot and make it look like an old barn find. i started off with a base coat of silver, to simulate the raw aluminum for under scratches and worn paint. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-20.jpg then i did a bit of salting here and there. and painted the body color, matte blue gray. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-21.jpg painted the roof white. did a bit of sanding, scrapping, scrubbing. black wash a few times. arches painted matte black. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-22.jpg you can see here a few spots where the paint is worn and you can see the aluminum. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-23.jpg all the trim got the same treatment. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-27.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-29.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-28.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-25.jpg installed rc4wd light kit http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-32.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-33.jpg then came the fun part if you hadn't noticed the wheelbase was a bit long in all the photos up till now. i had to cut about a half inch off the rear links, and the end of the frame rails. i also had to cut away some of the interior and dash to clear the tranny and gear cover. but in the end i got it all mounted and tricked out with some scale goodies. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-34.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-35.jpg i'm taking her out on a hike tomorrow so i'll have some action photos soon i also may build a roof rack for her. i have smaller tires coming so i should look a bit more scale. |

Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 so i did not make it out into the woods today. but i did get some stuff done... wheels and tires came in not sure if im to keen on how small they are. but i may or may not be getting a trailfinder2 for xmass so i may put them on that. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-36.jpg got the stuff to go 4link and tossed that in i may still need to take a bit more off the lower links with the smaller tires on you can tell the wheelbase is still not quite there. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-38.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-40.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-37.jpg here is a pic of the interior. you can see where i needed to trim it to clear the tranny. i have yet to do any painting in there, i will i just dont know what color to do it in. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-41.jpg i then went out and got some more brake line to play with. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-44.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-45.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-46.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-48.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-49.jpg i then stuffed it full of crap. i want to find a canoe for the top but i want one that is more to scale. some thing in the 12-14 inch range. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-50.jpg i will be going out for a hike with the lady tomorrow so i will get some trail pics. thanks for looking nik |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 That, is beautiful! Nicely done on the body & details! |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 a few new things, i found a canoe. built some ramps and some other scale trinkets. its coming along. i went out a few times last week and found that with the rack on its a bit top heavy so i need to work that out. without the rack it amazes me what it can handle. on to the pics....... http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-54.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-56.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-57.jpg my ramps http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-64.jpg and a few of the rack full of stuff. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-65.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-67.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-68.jpg |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 Looks good nick. Stop buying all the bodies I want!! Those tires and wheels look good but I see what you mean about the size Maybe if you could bring the ride height down a half inch or so it would look better More droop possibly |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 some pics of todays outing. i found a really cool spot. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-69.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-70.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-72.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-74.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-75.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-78.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-77.jpg |

Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 Have any pictures how you mounted the body? |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 I guess your tf2 Xmass present made you forget all about this thing So..... Why don't you send me that Cherokee bod? |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 i love it , the color reminds me of the old 109s which used to ride around my home town . also good work on the cherokee bumper , i need to make one for mine one day |
Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 its true with the holidays and the fact that i did get a tf2 for christmas, it has been some time since i have posted. first off alaskancrawler, here are some pics as to how i mounted the body. the front is just the stock posts from the dingo body http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-93.jpg the interior is drilled just between the rear seats with the body posts stuck down and pinned underneath. more pics in previous posts. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-97.jpg then for the back of the body, with the frame shortened i just have the blank bumper plate on the back and a screw through the plastic d90 bumper/ mud flap thing. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-96.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-94.jpg i hope this answers your questions. in other news playing in the snow http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-80.jpg i also put in the stock shocks to lower it down a bit. i like the looks of it but its not quite as capable as it was with the longer shocks. because the steering servo is sitting between the rails. i think if i go cms it will be better i just have to find a way of doing it that i like. my two previous attempts did not work as well as i wanted. (note the tf2 wheel/tire combo) http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-92.jpg teaser pic TF2 thread to come http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...10/file-90.jpg |
