| nix scx10 build now with more d90
this is my first build. ive been lurking for a bit. im a bit new to the crawler thing ive had my scx10 for a few months and i am having a ton of fun with it. i got the dingo kit because i love to put things together. first outing i wasn't a big fan of the ding body (joke coming) so i got the jeep Cherokee body as i had one back in the day as a winter beater. one of the few that i wish i still had. i then made my 1st bumper jeep at the river and in the wood killed the bumper. next new bumper quite a bit stonger the last photo shoot of the jeep |

ok so this is where the joke comes in. i had been looking in to hard bodies as i really like the whole scale look.. and as much as i didn't like the dingo body, i went out and got the d90 land rover hard body. i did a lot of building and painting models when i was younger so i figured i would give weathering a shot and make it look like an old barn find. i started off with a base coat of silver, to simulate the raw aluminum for under scratches and worn paint. then i did a bit of salting here and there. and painted the body color, matte blue gray. painted the roof white. did a bit of sanding, scrapping, scrubbing. black wash a few times. arches painted matte black. you can see here a few spots where the paint is worn and you can see the aluminum. all the trim got the same treatment. installed rc4wd light kit then came the fun part if you hadn't noticed the wheelbase was a bit long in all the photos up till now. i had to cut about a half inch off the rear links, and the end of the frame rails. i also had to cut away some of the interior and dash to clear the tranny and gear cover. but in the end i got it all mounted and tricked out with some scale goodies. i'm taking her out on a hike tomorrow so i'll have some action photos soon i also may build a roof rack for her. i have smaller tires coming so i should look a bit more scale. |

| Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 its braised steel brake line. you can find youtube videos about braising. i just pulled my mig welder out of storage so i think if i make a rack for the d90 i will tack it with the mig and then fill with solder. i feel that just braising is not quite as durable as i would like. i smashed my 1st bumper all to bits the 1st time i drove it off a cliff. not that i'm gunna be driving the d90 off a cliff.

so i did not make it out into the woods today. but i did get some stuff done... wheels and tires came in not sure if im to keen on how small they are. but i may or may not be getting a trailfinder2 for xmass so i may put them on that. got the stuff to go 4link and tossed that in i may still need to take a bit more off the lower links with the smaller tires on you can tell the wheelbase is still not quite there. here is a pic of the interior. you can see where i needed to trim it to clear the tranny. i have yet to do any painting in there, i will i just dont know what color to do it in. i then went out and got some more brake line to play with. i then stuffed it full of crap. i want to find a canoe for the top but i want one that is more to scale. some thing in the 12-14 inch range. i will be going out for a hike with the lady tomorrow so i will get some trail pics. thanks for looking nik |

a few new things, i found a canoe. built some ramps and some other scale trinkets. its coming along. i went out a few times last week and found that with the rack on its a bit top heavy so i need to work that out. without the rack it amazes me what it can handle. on to the pics....... my ramps and a few of the rack full of stuff. |

Looks good nick. Stop buying all the bodies I want!! Those tires and wheels look good but I see what you mean about the size Maybe if you could bring the ride height down a half inch or so it would look better More droop possibly |

Love the blue grey color and the D90 hardbody! Great job and pics. As somebody said drop the ride a little maybe or go with slightly taller tires?

| Re: nix scx10 build now with more d90 thanks. it does have a bit too much wheelgap. i have the ripsaws that came with the kit. with those it sits a bit better. i may bring it down a bit more. im still tuning it in.

its true with the holidays and the fact that i did get a tf2 for christmas, it has been some time since i have posted. first off alaskancrawler, here are some pics as to how i mounted the body. the front is just the stock posts from the dingo body the interior is drilled just between the rear seats with the body posts stuck down and pinned underneath. more pics in previous posts. then for the back of the body, with the frame shortened i just have the blank bumper plate on the back and a screw through the plastic d90 bumper/ mud flap thing. i hope this answers your questions. in other news playing in the snow i also put in the stock shocks to lower it down a bit. i like the looks of it but its not quite as capable as it was with the longer shocks. because the steering servo is sitting between the rails. i think if i go cms it will be better i just have to find a way of doing it that i like. my two previous attempts did not work as well as i wanted. (note the tf2 wheel/tire combo) teaser pic TF2 thread to come |
