Default Tranny Flip??

Besides the questionable title I have a serious question, kinda noob but I've never understood the trans flip what does it actually do? I've inspected my rig and it looks like the weight is centered on the skid so what does the flip change? I'm running an Robinson stuffed scx trans with a traxxas titan 12t so I can see where I could move the COG around but what actually changes it??

If your talking about a mirrored tranny i think it helps with torque twist.

It helps eliminate torque twist.

So is that only for torque twist? Nothing weight or COG related??

Mirror your tran. Puts motor in the passenger side --weight on side of torque twist . Several post on here state how to do it -- if you need help.
Did my honcho right from the start. It does help. Not sure about a wraith -- I do not have one. Give it a try.

Correct...reduces torque twist. It gets the weight of the motor onto the other side of the transmission reducing the amount of lift.

I've also done the flip...gets the spur gear towards the front for extra clearance when building an interior. Torque twist is less noticeable on heavier rigs.

Well I have a 3.3 turnigy 2s lipo on my passengers side and with my truck at about 9lbs 6oz maybe that's why I haven't noticed the torque twist??

When you mirror the tranny you have to pull it apart and switch the input shaft around so it comes out of the opposite side of the tranny from stock. Flipping the tranny you just remove the skid 180 it and reinstall. Flip and mirror is a combo of both.

Lol I know that but what changes in the trucks behavior, as in what option affects what??

Yeah buddy....that 9# will most likely absorb any torque twist.

Well, mirror and flip put the motor on the passenger side.
Stock and mirror/flip put the motor on the driver side.
Flip and mirror/flip move the spur gear to the front.

On a light rig torque twist can be really annoying...getting the weight of the motor on the passenger side helps significantly. This helps quite a bit on an AX10

Far as I know getting the spur gear to the front is just for positioning.

You're right about the transmission being centered for the most part. Mirroring it just moves the location off the motor (weight)

^^sweet! That's what I wanted to know I might do a flip and mirror to make it easier to swap pinions and spurs and get the weight on the passengers side to see of anything changes

That would put the motor back on the drivers side if you are in the U.S. (in the upper right corner of the diagram it shows the direction of the front of the vehicle). You'll just want to flip it (basically rotate 180°]

I just flipped mine to get the spur to the front on my 9# rig, it does make it easier to get to the motor/spur for me too.

I know I just can't see your pic on the thread with my phone while replying so I just said mirror/flip so I'd be right either way winning is winning

Is it just me or are the picture marked "Mirror" and the one marked "Mirror & Flip" marked wrong? Shouldn't it be just the opposite way?

When you mirror the tranny you just mount the motor plate on the other side of the gear housing and change the internals to the other side. So the gear housing and the skid plate should stay in the same possision. Flip is when the skid plate and the gear housing is turned 180°, or am I wrong?
