Default Copper Cherokee

Its finally time to present my ugly duckling turned copper god cherokee (note to self , too much drama in description)

It all started out as local find Dingo RTR, the guy was selling it for months so got it for a reduced price .

this is how it arrived.

the previous owner painted it with an unknown type of color , and really non creatively, flat black.

I've took it apart , corrected the building mistakes and cleaned it .

then came the painting removal part, i've used autosmart tardis, it works fine and it is affordable , but boy oh boy does it stink.

a couple of hours later and lots of masking and Tamiya Copper paint this is what it resulted.

made some links and converted it to 4 link , also fixed the wheelbase in the process .

Using the waterproofing guide here and on axials blog, i've filled the axels with grease, ballooned the electronics, also got a Hitec HS-5645WP running at 7.4 of an Castle BEC .

Next step was to raise the bumper with a bracket and cut the wheel wells .

Today i've run it outside for the first time, its cold and muddy , but it was great.

i need to get more steering out of it , planing on getting high clearance knuckles, some aluminium c hubs and cvas. also overdrive gears.

cue the pictures.

any comments, suggestions, ideas are appreciated .

thank you !

Any plans to put the interior that came with it in? IMO the interior and a proline floor pan would set this rig off even more. I have the Same body and mine Has the floor pan in it, its great at keeping trash and mud out of the inside. I'm loving the copper color. Great job on the paint work!

i need to trim the floor pan to fit the cut body , but im not sure on how to , maybe heating and bending or cut and glue.

i just wanted it to finally run it for the first time.

also need to bend the sliders up a bit

Looks good. I have the same body and I'm running the floor pan and interior set up. The floor pan is nice to have also gives you more options for mounting electronics.

The 'bay has some floor pans but they are getting more expensive and harder to find since they have been discontinued. I recommend them specially on the Cherokee bodies.

i've posted this also in the body section ,but to consolidate ill also do it here.

I need some help with modifying my proline floor pan .

the wheel wells on the back are a bit too far back , so they stand out of the body . i also have a minor issue with the front , but thats minor.

any pointers on how i should get to it ?

ill let the pictures illustrate .

the front

the back, note the clear parts

the back without the body, i've marked the bit which stands out

the front and back bit i can just cut, but i have no idea on how to do it with the wheel arches

just like on the 1:1 if you cut the arches too far, you expose the inner tubs. as you have cut the arches, you have exposed the "inner tub" so really, you need to heat it up a little and beat it into submission like a 1:1 or, cut and glue it back to create larger wheel tubs to suit the size of the new arches.

hope that helps.

did a bit of cutting , bending , heating , and the front is perfect now , the rear needs a bit of a fix , but i need to get a sheet of lexan to fill the holes i cut .

thanks for the help , my 1:1 experience is sound in theory but poop in practice.

here's two shots from today from crawling with the missus.

Very nice, just googled pics of Tamiya Copper as I'm thinking of painting my JK this colour when I get it. Convinced now after seeing yours, love it.

Cheers Red

Looks great! How do you find that servo on 7.4? I had mine running off of a Castle BEC at 7.4 and It wasn't happy. It constantly twitched and moved, sometimes it would swing to full lock without warning. I dialed down the BEC to 6.0v and now it works flawlessly. I never really figured out if the voltage was the problem. I know it's rated for 7.4, but it acted like a homeless crackhead. (grumpy and twitchy, unpredictable)

mine works fine at 7.4, nothing of the issues you described. could be a faulty BEC or the servo.
