Default JIA's Rubicon with VP Curries

This place is turning into another Nylint forum.

We've got a Mini G6 coming up that's 1.9 only and since I didn't have a 1.9, I figured it was time to get one.

Still getting it sorted out, but for this weekend it will be all stock with some small changes. First thing I did was pull the screw pins from the front bumper, move it as far back as it would go and still allow enough room to mount the winch, and drilled new holes for the screw pins.

Using my Futaba 4PKS with the RC4WD wireless winch controller mod so I installed a 3Racing winch on the front bumper, spooled it with 130lb Dyneema, installed some Dean's 2R plugs, a RC4WD winch hook, and plugged it into the RC4WD wireless winch controller. I modded the 4PKS to hold the RC4WD transmitter for the IFS rig and made the RX board so it was modular and easily swapped from rig to rig.

A little Velcro and the RC4WD wireless winch RX board was mounted on the RX box. It wouldn't fit inside with the box with the Futaba RX.

On the rear I drilled a couple of holes to mount a scratch-built Hi-lift that I got ages ago in a trade. No idea where it came from, but I've somehow kept it all these years. Drilled a couple of holes and used Wraith body panel screws to secure it. This is mounted in the same way my Hi-Lift was mounted to my Poison Spyder cage on my 1:1 TJ.

I still need to make tow straps, bungee cords, surfboards, and round out the scale items for the G6, but it's progress. I have a LED kit from a RTR Wraith around here somewhere, if I find those I'll get those installed. I have a set of Vanquish VVDs and some aluminum steering links to go in, but other than those bits there will be no mechanical changes for this weekend.

A surfboard isn't required, but is highly recommended for our G6.

Found a surfboard magnet at Kmart and got to work. Did quite a bit of sanding to give the board a more realistic appearance and shape. The bottom was almost completely flat.

Made the fin from two layers of .030" styrene and slotted the board for the fin with a Dremel cutter.

Also got to work with some lead weights. Added 2.5 oz. to each wheel. MUCH more stable now.

Since I put RC4WD's drive flanges on the IFS rig I used the two good LockedUP RC hubs I modded, painted, and installed Krawler Konceptz Solid drive flange decals. Also swapped the stock plastic shackles to the rear and installed RC4WD's metal shackles up front. Also installed Vanquish VVDs and an Axial aluminum steering link kit. Drive flanges wouldn't normally be on a street/trail rig, but I had them here (and no other hubs) so I put them on.

We made recovery straps last night. My wife even put scale stitching at each end of the straps. Almost a shame to put heat shrink over these.

With no real storage compartment, I had no idea where to put the recovery strap, so it is secured around the tire.

Been working like a mad man on this rig and my son's Honcho.

A few pics.

Modified wipers from a HPI drift accessory kit.

Beef. VP Currie axles in black. Stock knuckles and C hubs.VVDs.

Rear shot. Must've been left parked in Rim Village - some asshole tagged the rear bumper with a RCC sticker. Stuck the plate decal on some flashing, cut it out, and glued it to the big block on the tire carrier. Made a trash bag for the G6.

Used servo tape to stick a Pro-Line fuel can in the rear. Cut the head off a small zip-tie, folded corners in it (backwards so the teeth are out) and glued it to the fuel can. Now instead of having a random can just sitting in the back, it has a strap on it. No yard sale here. If you look in the first pic you'll see the two zip-ties I placed around this piece until the glue cured.

Pro-Line roof rack is packed with the surfboard, sand ramps, some rope, a shovel, and some bungee tie-downs I made tonight.

3Racing light kit is also in. I could have used the Axial kit, but I have functioning brake lights with the 3Racing kit. Need to get a Dinky kit for the front.

And since we're in the SCX forum, I also fully rebuilt Jeff's Honcho. New body kit, some Axial Maxxis Trepadors, 3Racing winch with RC4WD wireless winch controller, and all the scale accessories needed for the G6. Lights, surfboard, trash bag, sand ramps, recovery strap, fire extinguisher, and a water jug.

Now to get a little rest and go drive.

Had a blast at the mini G6, but spent way too much time winching and using the strap. I left the battery in the stock location, that may have to change. Soon.

My negative lead on the ESC power cable came loose. Since it was pouring rain and my son's steering servo was taking a dump I decided to get him off the mountain before he slipped and fell in the mud/wet rocks.

Being tired and grumpy didn't help matters.

Used BodiBuilt's Zip-loc inner fender idea.

Need to paint these tomorrow.

Our last G6 was great. Night event. Jeff and I ran in a 4-person group. Jeff's 55-turn on 2S hung in there. He was taking some good lines and even showed the old guys how it's done a time or two.

We just had basic LEDs in the front/rear bumpers for the last event but we carried some Surefire flashlights to make sure we could see when we needed. Between the flashlights and young_version's crazy lighting on his JK, we were good to go.

One of the local guys, Luke, had a strip of LEDs under his rockers that was pretty nice. I made a mental note of the idea and filed it away.

Tonight I picked up some LEDs.

These are basic 12V LED strips you can get at Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, and various auto places like Auto Zone, Advance, O'rielly...

It's cheaper to buy the longest strips you can get. $17 for two 4" strips, $32 for a 36" strip. I'm sure you can get the raw strips in length on eBay, but I need lights this week - which meant I didn't want to wait on the boat from China.

They're great because they're 12V, waterproofed, cut to fit, and the resistors are built in. There are pads on the LED strips so if you cut them (can be cut in groups of 3) you can remove some of the waterproofing and solder directly to the pads that are labeled 12V + and -. Cover that with some liquid electrical tape, wire them to a switch, power them with your 3-cell Li-Po, and forget about it.

The lit shot is two 6" strips stuck to the bottom of the front chassis rails. 9 LEDs per strip. Each 2" segment has 3 LEDs. I'll do the same with two 6" strips at the rear, just have to solder a connection between front and rear.

Im shocked you got the weights to work like that, i thought you had to put them on the inside of the tire LOL
Did you have to mod the weights or did you find some that fit perfect
