Possible binding?

Hey guys,so my mostly stock honcho (rok lox, lipo, steering upgrade) is acting really strange. I've dinged up one spur gear already but that was an easy fix however now when I move at really slow crawl speeds it seems like it's binding, like chugging...(Chug chug chug chug) the drivetrain seems smooth though when I turn the spur by hand. Any chance at all that it's the stock motor or anything? It's driving me nuts,I'll try and upload a vid to youtube so you can hear it. thanks guys

Re: Possible binding?

was it a RTR honcho? could be the stock motor if you have a lot of packs run through it. i would recommend you at least lube up everything to eliminate that possibility, and then just buy an inexpensive rebuildable motor and keep one as a spare - integy 35t is a decent motor for $20. another thing is possibly changing the pinion gear to a lower tooth count (to get RPMs higher at low speed) so you're not bogging down the motor if that's the issue - since rok lox are taller tire than stock (gear ratio change)

Actually just watching that makes it seems that there is a ton of slack in the drivetrain. I'm not sure but i'm gonna take a driveshaft off to see it it's in the axle

Swapped shafts and it's still there,So i'm thinking it's in the tranny or the motor, guess I will try to grab another motor to test first.

Re: Possible binding?

Mine does this a bit too at the low-end.

I tried:

-replacing every drive train component, with after-market upgrades...Not it,
-axle gears shimmed perfect...Not it
-pinion / spur mesh...Not it. (still suspect though. Going to get 32pitch gears, to allow for smoother tooth-lash),
-MIP shafts' pins aligned, with powered one's pin leading the slave one...Not it,
-MIP shafts' pins aligned, with powered one's pin trailing the slave one...Not it,
-re calibrated my BR-SL / CRAWLMASTER / DX4S...Not it. (although I don't have a Castlelink to fine tune it yet).
-clocking axles to different angles on the front axle to see if it is the angle of the third-member pinion...Not it.
-coggin at low speed; could be, but there are no answers to solving that...

Hope someone figures it out.

Is your spur/pinion mesh too tight? This could cause binding as well. If it is, use a strip of paper and feed it in between the spur and pinion. The paper will act as a spacer to allow a bit of room between the two gears. Regular writing paper works fine. Once the motor is tightened down, you can just spin the spur to remove the paper.
