Default Brand new SCX-10 with leaking shocks

Is this a common issue with these trucks. I just purchased 1 and the shocks are leaking.

All rc shocks leak to a certain degree, manufacturer and build techniques play a part though. Grab some associated green slime during your next visit to your lhs, apply lovingly to bottom cartridge and top cap during your next shock rebuild. The grease barrier helps hold the shock oil in.

I would email Axial support and let them know about the problem with your shocks. The o-rings in the shocks need to be replaced and the shocks refilled with oil.

Rebuilding shocks is a skill that you need to learn to maintain your crawler. There are various threads and videos on how to do this. If properly assembled, the SCX10 shocks do a good job and don't require frequent oil refills.

I just put together a Dingo kit and my shocks are leaking more than normal. I used green slime on the shafts and o-rings. I read somewhere to use Traxxas o-rings in them. I am going to try that.

Sad fact, no matter what you do with them the SCX stock shocks will not hold oil worth a darn. Sure, all RC shocks will "seep" to a certain degree. The stock SCX shocks straight up leak badly compared to most others.

I assembled mine with appropriate use of Green slime and teflon tape only to have three of them practically empty after three packs. Rubbish I say.

I put traxxas o rings in mine. They are a little big, so I only put one on the bottom. Haven't leaked much. I'll try some of that ae grease.

Invest some money in some aftermarket shocks
Traxxas BigBores are leakproof ...I have 5 sets on 5 different trucks...not one leaks even a tiny bit...spring options are all over the map for all kinds of situations....best investment ever

Bought my Honcho new, as soon as I removed it from it's original package, I noticed the front right shock had leaked all the oil out. Plan on replacing them anyways.

One of mine is leaking bad. They seem really cheap and I want some good shocks that aren't too expensive, I been looking a Prolines- anybody have them?

Are you using Traxxas springs or another brand of spring on the bigbore shocks ?

my dingo holds oil about as well as a pasta strainer holds water. Ive just been running them mostly dry just to not have to rebuild them every day.

Not a great picture....but I use the red springs in this rig

An example of the losi mini spring....fits nice and works great

Another example of another losi spring....inverse shock position and a little bigger spring...

I use the red stock spring in my wraith as well. My Wreckluse and wraith are fairly heavy rigs...so the stock red springs work well for those. The scx10 is roughly 6.5 lbs and the losi springs work exceptionally for that rig. The Mantis/XR10 is a bit heavier...but it's a strange beast and liked the special losi springs I found that fit and work very well.

Bottom line is finding what works for your rig. If your rigid lighter 5-7 LBS use the Losi mini springs...any heavier ..Try the red stock springs, or something else a little stiffer

Best of luck Nitro

Thanks for all the replies. I know how to rebuild shocks. I was just inquiring as to whether anyone else was having an issue out of the box with the axials

Hope this helps those with leaking SCX10 shocks: A month after replacing the Axial O-rings on my SCX10 Rubicon with "Tamiya 50597 Damper O-rings (10pcs)." the results are in...

In summary the Tamiya O-rings make a big difference to the rate of oil loss from the dampers. They are not a perfect 100% leak free fix, but a huge improvement for a low cost. However they are tricky to install. Here is a video on the leaks, the new orings and the results:

Thanks to 'BigGaz' on the ModelSport UK forum for suggesting the Tamiya 50597 O-rings

Anyone notice if the new icon shocks leak more or less than the plastic oil variants?

Sorry, but I have not been on here for a year and don't have the time to search much :(
Looking for reasons to go for the kit over the rtr as I sold my dingo earlier this year...
