Default Steering help

I took my truck out yesterday and noticed something is wrong with my steering.

I can turn left more than I can turn right.

What can be the problem and how can I fix it?

Is the servo horn centered? Is the steering trim adjusted to zero?

I think so but I will check it again.

Take the servo horn off the servo. Center your trim and sub-trim. Then put the horn back on as close to verticle as you can. From here set your end points for max steering angle and be sure you don't set it too far - adjust until the arms on the knuckles contact the chubs then back it off a few clicks. Do this for both left and right turns. Check that your axles don't click or bind at full lock, adjust your sub-trim as needed to keep it tracking straight and you should be good to go.

If your radio doesn't have end point adjustments you will just have to use whichever hole on the servo horn that gives the most travel without causing the steering to bind. In this case it will be hard to get exactly the same degree of turning in both directions, but should be close enough.

I took off my servo horn and re-centered my servo and I have the same result.

When I turn full left, my hubs hit the knuckles. When I turn full right, they don't hit.

It seems like I can't get equal steering no matter how I set it up.

Any suggestions?

Take the horn off, and if looking at the truck from the front, put the horn back on one notch over in the clockwise direction and then check your max steering again.

I think I tried that already too, but I'll try again.

Well, if your radio isn't adjustable that's the only way to get more right steering throw, at the cost of some left, but hopefully it's more balanced if you just adjust it one notch over.

Post a pic of your steering setup on your crawler. I had a friend that had this issue and we got his fixed but I am not sure if yours is the same.

If you will post a pic of your steering setup it would be easier to see what is going on and help you. If you would post one with the tires straight at least.

The instruction I've given you will fix the issue the best you can short of making a custom length link (find the servo horn position that gives the best balance between left/right). This should get your steering even enough to live with but likely won't be perfect. If that's not good enough for you and you want a perfectly balanced steering throw you need to upgrade to a radio with adjustable endpoints.

I am using a Spektrum radio, so I do have endpoint adjustments.

I will take and post pics in a bit.

Ok then use your end point adjustments to even it out. Turn all the way to the right, and adjust the applicable end point adjustment until it makes first contact, then back it off a little. Do the same for turning left. Boom, optimal steering throw.

I maxed out my steering endpoints and it still doesn't do it equally.

Ok, looks like you need more left turn. Take the horn off and put it back on one notch over in the counter-clockwise direction, then adjust your endpoints to balance it out. You don't want it to contact in either direction, just really close to contacting. If there is contact then back off the respective endpoint adjustment until there is a tiny gap there.

And if you want to start completely over: Disconnect your servo horn, center both your trim and subtrim, center your tires, then reattach the horn wherever it happens to line up with everything else centered/straight. After that's all done, use your endpoints to even it out. If you go through that and it's not right then A. you are doing something wrong, or B. there is a mechanical issue with your rig.

So there's no way to have max steering on both sides that will let the knuckles touch the hubs?

I'm trying to describe to you exactly how to get just that: Both equall and max steering in both directions.

If you have questions about a speciffic step I mentioned, please ask.

You need a longer servo horn if you can't get both sides to touch and you've done as posted above -- reset subtrim to 0 , reset end points to 100 , reset dual rate to 100, center servo horn on servo with wheels straight, etc.
