Are you running 2s/3s LiPo or 6/7/8 cell NiMH?

If running 2s voltage I'd run a 27T and gear it down some, or a 35T. If you are running 3s voltage I'd run a 45 or even 55T. Motor quality/condition and gearing will play the biggest role. What tires are you looking at getting, and what pinion/spur gears do you have on hand?

It sounds like you do a little of everything, if you are running a common 2s setup with the 27T, proper gearing for bigger/heavier tires should be able to provide good all-around performance.

I put a novak goat 3s 21.5 turn combo in my honcho this weekend. I was suffering a little buyers remorse after I left the hobby shop but now that I've ran it you couldn't take it back at gun point. I have a 16 tooth pinion and the stock spur, and after a solid hour of mixed wheeling it's still ambiant temp (or so close I can't tell the difference). On 2s the bottom end is buttery smooth with a slight reduction in speed compaired to the rtr stuff. On 3s it's still cold and smooth as silk, but there's more wheel speed than the rtr setup. I'm leery about novak, having seen a number of guys burn them down at the race track but this seems pretty solid. Personally, running my rc cars in mud or water is just below cutting off my thumbs on my list of things to do but if you don't already know be carefull, brushless motors don't shrug off moisture as well as a brushed one will. I run 5000mah 2s lipos and a couple 3300mah 3s lipos from my planes and battery life is better than the rtr setup for 2s.
