| New Honcho owner - hopefully some easy questions
Hey guys... My honcho will be at my doorstep waiting for me when I get home from work. I just got the RTR version to get used to the whole crawler/scaler thing.... I'm used to 1/8 buggies. I plan this summer to tackle a Tundra truggy build when I get a little better with figuring out what works and what doesn't. Here is my questions though.... What would be some good initial upgrades to make to the truck? I was planning on tires and beadlocks, the metal links, and possibly a motor down the road sometime (holmes probably) but dont know what turn motor would be good. I plan on just doing some crawling around here and there.... no comps or anything serious like that. What am I missing, or is that a solid start?? Also..... any cheap/free mods that can be done to improve anything? |

If you check out the stickies at the top of the scx10 section, there is a thread 5+ pages long on both of those questions. I have read through them and there is a whole bunch of usefully info in there. |

You can always remove the factory bump stops on the shocks for some more flex, and then from there just replace stuff as it breaks or no longer performs the way you want.

if you already read the tips and tricks, then you know what some think is essential -- i'd just run it a lot and figure out what your needs are as you go. IMO most important thing in the beginning would be to have a backup battery so you can keep going!

Really only two things come to mind, the biggest thing to upgrade is to aluminum links and RRP aluminum output transmission gear as soon as possible, everything else is on a "breaking" basis at that point, really not that much even breaks at all if anything some plastic stuff warps, it really depends on how you drive and what you drive through. Usually with me once I bullet proff the transmission line the next set of stuff to go out has usually been the electronics at a farther point then small stuff like the plastic turning knuckles although it took a 1,200 horse to break my plastic turning knuckles (long story short I drove my scx10 in a pasture and a horse stepped on it) the new stock electronics on the RTR is actually top of the line for an RTR, 2.4ghz radio, castle made esc, exc. so your pretty much set just with electronics and for what everyone is suggesting. |
