Default arctichorse's Hilux build thread.

So I decided to start working on my Tamiya Hilux build and my first shipment of parts came in today, just have to get a few more things to finish it and wait for my ARB Hilux bumper with light mounts to come in1 Going to be using a SCX10 Dingo wheel base, chassis and axles.

This is the exact Hilux I'm building, this is my inspiration for the Hilux build, I've been wanting to build one for a while but when I saw this it was the kick off for me. I even bought the exact bumper but it's being shipped from Europe because there's only one company that makes it and it's over there apparently for that exact bumper because RPP and RC4WD only has the one without the light mount.

First shipment.

Rebuilding my chassis, just need to four link it and grease the bearings and axle tubes.

Are those all the parts to have a complete body?

Pretty much, I'm going to buy the parts that fill the holes in the bed later, last few thing I need to get is the snorkel, fender flares and that metal bed roll bar.

So I put most of the accessories together and it looks really good but I'm having trouble trying to get it to be flush with the frame because the body sits high due to the shock hoops, I've got it mounted in the rear though finally.

Using the body post holes that come pre drilled in the bed I used those because they lined up with the rear almost perfectly.

I then took one of the frame guide rails and grinded the lips and sides down to push it in farther on the frame.

By doing that, the body lines up perfectly with the wheel base. It looks off centered because I never aligned the front and rear body posts together, this is just a rough fit.

It looks like the body needs to come down ~3/4" in front and ~1/2" in the rear. I'd get some short shocks for the rear and mount them angled forward directly to the chassis, or inwards to the crossmember. Then you can take the rear shock hoops off all together.

What's your wheelbase?

I think it's 11.3" if I remember right, it's the Axial SCX10 Dingo short wheel base, the front wheel sit about 2-3mm from being dead center in the fender wheel wells when I got a closser look but close enough to not notice off the bat. Yeah, I'm going to level it off, I never adjusted the body posts, because I had the front body posts jacked as high as they would go and the rear one's at a lower level when I took this picture, the front shock hoops are not a problem surprisingly there not in the way and will go low enough, now the rear shock hoops are in the way, I'm thinking about getting the Gear Head shock relocation kit and get rid of the back shock hoops all together.

First thing is to lower the body more. Re-position the rear shock hops or buy the relocation kit.
Dig through my threads for ideas.

How's this? I leveled it off a lot more now. Redjones, I looked through a thread you made and you have the gear head rear shock relocation kit, what shock lengths are you running in the back?

Looks great! Like seeing the frame directly below the doors. At the time I built mine the shock relocate kit was unavailable. I mounted a set of RC4WD shocks to the rear of the frame.

Looks good so far can't wait to see it painted. I am looking at doing a build similar to this only with a trail finder 2 body. How about some pics of how you did the front body mount.

Thank you. Nice, when I start my career here some time and making money I would like to get the trail finder 2 also and work on that Hilux model err SR5 as some would say.
Hopefully I can get it painted by Friday.

Slide 2 body posts found in the SCX10 kit inside the holes of the Hilux bumper, into the chassis brace with the body post holes. Trimming is required and gives it a stealth look.

Wow, never looked at the front bumper like that, great idea, I was just going to velcro it. Scaler14, I have some more stuff coming up here soon, should have it painted and fully mounted by tomorrow, little low on funds some some stuff might come later.

Well due to school today (I know it's Saturday but I still go to school for the career I'm training to go in) I haven't got much done, will work on the front mount tomorrow, but this is all I was able to get done last night. Picked up some Fire Orange spray paint from Rustoleum. Mind the beer bottle, I was using it as a paper weight, I don't drink.
