Default Got me a used Honcho what's next !

Hey Guys !

So I finally got myself a SCX10. I got a used Honcho in overall good condition. The previous owner bought a couple of aluminum parts from a chinese brand I guess. Looks like parts are from asiatee or something like that, seems very generic.

- Aluminum links
- Aluminum ''center plate''
- Aluminum c-hubs
- Aluminum knuckles
- Aluminum rear hubs
- Novak 35 T brushed
- Lights kit
- Couple of spares

I tore the SCX10 apart, just like I do for every RC I buy used. C-Hubs were inversed, shocks were half full of oil and the aluminum links were oh so horribly unevenly threaded. The links are kind of adjustable and the aluminum piece in the middle are all the same lenght :S.

I kind of hated the alum links so I went back and installed stock plastic links and 4-linked the front suspension using the parts I had with it.

After a few observations, I want to change two things asap. Get some good quality links and change the shocks for some decent units.

So does anybody have a good suggestion on what links or shocks to get ?

I've been looking at the axial link kit and almost ready to pull the trigger on it but for some reason I am hesitant.

As for the shocks, I've been thinking about installing Losi xxx-t shocks on it. I have a set of these laying around and have had great experience with them. Has anybody fitted these yet ?

I also installed the smallest pinion I had at the moment, I think it's a 14t. I'm really not looking for speed on this build, i'd rather focus on torque than speed, I have a few other fast RCs that fill my need for speed.

Anyways, I'll try to post pics as soon as I get done rebuilding it. I'm stuck with a missing M3X30mm screw atm ...

I did the same with a used Honcho I bought off a member here. I tore it completely down, opened up and re-lubed the transmission and axles. It's a good time to inspect everything for wear and replace it before it breaks.

I run these for links, and they are very good quality:

As for shocks, I'm still running stockers because I'm cheap and they work, but I've heard lots of good things about the Proline Scaler shocks.

I like the stainless steel links from R2J. They better than aluminum and more budget friendly than titanium.

Are there any benefits to using SS instead of aluminum. The way I see it is aluminum is lighter and must be strong enough

I find the SS slides over the rocks better. Aluminum, being soft, seems to snag a bit.

The Axial links are hollow.

The weak spot is the m3x16mm set screw that is threaded into the link and the plastic rod end to attach the rod end to the link. It is pretty easy to bend the set screw in the lower links.

The R2J links are threaded for 4mm so that the link threads directly into the rod end.

See the Axial link set instructions to see how the links are attached to the rod ends. http://docs.axialracing.com/instruct...cx10-links.pdf

X2 to all those guys above. Aluminum does not slide like stainless does. AND R2J makes bombproof links. My truck weighs 8lbs and I can drop it from 4ft without a care for the R2J links.
