I run a 20T wraith motor in my honcho, its very fun driving and still a bit of torque. I run 20t/87t

Are you running 3s lipo? Even if you are the 20t is going to be pretty slow. You have to remember the crawlmaster is a 5 slot Armature instead of the conventional 3 slot. The 16t would be closer to your old 35t tekin.

It sounds like you like speed considering the 20 tooth pinion you were running. It's better to get a lower turn motor and gear down and volt up. I'd recommend a 13t crawlmaster and a 15 tooth pinion running on 3s.

Sorry I think I misunderstood your post. Sounds like you have the motor already and are trying to decide between a 14, 18, and 20t pinion's.

If that's the case I'd get the 18.

HH recommends a 5:1 ratio.

I'm not sure if the Tekin was really old and had served it's time, but maybe it had an early death from gearing it too high on 3s?

If 5:1 is suggested and you have an 87 tooth spur then you need a 17-18 tooth pinion. If that 5:1 suggestion is for 2s operation then the ratio should be even higher for 3s (maybe 14-15 tooth). In any case gearing suggestions should only be thought of as a starting point and motor temperature should be the deciding factor because we are all in different climates and have different driving styles. If you run the 18-20 and it gets really hot put the 14 tooth on. If then you don't have the desired wheelspeed and the motor runs cool, try something like a 16 tooth. There's no sense in burning up a top dollar brushed motor from improper gearing.
