| 120mm shocks too tall what do you recommend with these tires
so i recently purchased the new 2.2 boggers for my scx10 and as you know they are big. I had 120mm shocks with the droop kit. they seemed too tall and was messing with my steering angles. So i installed the stocks back on with no droop kit. Looking to go a bit taller shocks that work well. Thinking between 100-110 mm. Anyone do this setup? curious of what shocks are recommended? i do all low speed crawl. please shoot suggestions that would be great

What about any of the GMade shocks in the 103 size? I've read that ppl are pretty happy with the way they perform. XD Aeration Shock Absorber 103mm (2) |

I think 120mm is too much for SCX10. Even 100mm shocks from Wraith is high and mess drive shaft angle. You can see it in my thread. And big lift will make your vehicle easy to tip over. Check this problem post. |

i agree 100% that 120mm is too tall which is why i want to go lower. However keep in mind im running the droop kit as well. yes i have seen the gmade ones and they seem to be getting good reviews so thats what ive been looking at.

Have you considered limiting the throw (internally) on the 120mm shocks you already have?

Limiting the throw will shorten shock travel. You can do that if you are OK with shorter travel. I can not compare stock shocks with aftermarket because I don't have any. But I rebuild plastic 100mm Wraith shocks with slime and 30W Lucas oil and they perform good. It is cheap. Also I found different diaphragms with 3-6 holes (stock installed 2 holes) in parts tree. It made shocks softer, just what I need to use in SCX10. |

i havent considered that because i didnt think of it. the 120mm i have are just the HR air shocks. Not sure how to shorten then to be honest

Disassemble shock and put spacer under diaphragm.

Have you thought about losi shocks? They seem to be the short shocks most people recommend.

ditch the 2.2s and lift = problem solved personally i think it's hard to tune an scx10 to fit 2.2s for crawling purposes - axles are too narrow for the height of the rig and tires, thus stability is not so great. your steering shouldn't be effected at all by lifting the rig unless you're running CMS. air shocks are going to be difficult to make changes to since they use internal springs. posting up a few pics of your whole setup will definitely help give better answers. some things to try might be to run the shocks in droop vs using a droop bracket (which I'm assuming is how you've "drooped" your suspension). have you cut your body yet? you may have to if you lower the rig to clear those tires. driveshaft angles can always be remedied by changing link lengths, so don't worry about this. |

I agree with others that 120mm is too long. I run traxxas big bore xl's which are 100mm (4") becasue I like the reasonably higher stance for crawling - and - the wheel tuck with my irocs is just right IMO. As mentioned before I also did not want to go monster truck 2.2 with my JK build on scx axles. I have a wronch for that. The iroc tires are the same OD as the stock maxxis, 4.6 ish " |

good looking rig. Ya i think 100mm should be about right. I had axles clocked but it really affected the drag link for steering because servo being mounted in frame. meaning the drag link angle to the steering rod was way to far apart. If it wasnt for the the truck had a crazy amount of flex but still just a bit too tall even with the droop kit. So i shortened the upper front links to straighten the axle out and put stock shocks on which made steering much better but just sits really low so i was thinking 100mm with give more travel and just a bit more height which i can adjust with diff mounting points

I think you have a good plan there. IMO I like the look of the JK's you see at events like easter jeep wknd, not in the parking lot at strarbucks. 100 will give you that. I do like starbucks BTW. | |
