Default Mirage's Newbright Jeep JK build

Well I've had a lot of these parts laying around for a long time, in the case of the body, I picked up a Newbright Jeep JK at walmart back in '09 and never touched it until now. I have most of the parts, but still need my DDK (Transmission and Transfer case to come in), and need to buy a receiver, speed control, steering servo, and a chassis mounted servo kit. With my current job situation, it may be awhile before I finish this one, but finally had the time and space to get things out and get to work. Nothing fancy yet, but you get the idea.

I haven't completely decided on a paint scheme, but it'll be getting painted for sure. The flare will probably either get trimmed some or replaced with the axial jeep flares.

Here you can kind of see how the tires fit in the wheel wells. They tuck pretty good and dont stick out past the fenders, but I am thinking I want to put the axial fenders on this thing.

Home made 4 links

Shock towers mocked up and moved back slightly

They fit in the interior pretty well now, just need to make sure I have them exactly where I want them before I make new holes in the chassis.

Sliders

Rear tire mount removed from the body

This is going to hold the spare on now

And the new front bumper

Fits like a glove

Really looks good. I think I'd leave the fenders alone.

What wheels are those? Kinda remind me of some old school slots with a beadlock ring!

They're Gear Head RC Slot Mags:

Gear Head RC 1.9 Aluminum BL Slot Mag Wheels (4)

These are some of the nicest beadlocks I've owned, definitely the nicest 1.9s. I could tell as soon as I was clamping the tires in that they were going to work better than some of the old RC4WD wheels I used to have. Granted, I haven't bought an RC4WD beadlocks in 4 or 5 years now so they may be much better now. I'd say they'll be on par with the set of Meyhem Engineering wheels I have on my Wraith. I was thinking about doing a black wheel, but I have so many sets of black wheels on all my other trucks and wanted something different for this one, but black probably still would look better in the end, haha.

Nice Jeep! I vote, fill in the holes in the stock flares and make flat style flares!

I thought about that actually. I have some styrene tubing as well, I was thinking about cutting the fenders and trying to make them look like tube fenders, but I'm not sure how well tanex7 or bondene will hold styrene to the newbright body.

I got the shock mounts moved and the chassis drilled so they could bolt on. I also ended up having to make some spacers to move the rear bumper back some to clear the body.

I got the nerf bars modded and bolted on as well.

Awesome build! I' really like the fenders, I might go that route, if I can find some fiber glass. Even without, Im sure expoxy would stay put in the fenders without.

The key is really to have the right tools and the space to use them, the rest is trial and error

I got a few more pieces added on, the front cross piece over the dash is a little higher than i'd like, but I kept melting the nuts off the ends because I was trying to get pieces too close together. It'll do for now, might change it later when I'm finished and go back to clean up any joints, we'll see how the rest of it turns out first.

Not sure if I posted the last progress I made on the cage or not, but its corroded some from sitting, I'll have to finish it up soon.

I also got a wireless winch mounted up.

I decided to go with the Axial flares and started hacking....

The gap looks a little wierd in the pictures for some reason, but it looks good in person.

Just enough clearance and full articulation, of course that is subject to change, especially since the body isnt actually mounted to anything yet.
