Default Chassis mounted steering question

I have searched high and low within the forum but have come up empty....

Seems that the Hand Brothers and RC4WD chassis mounted steering options are just about impossible to find. I bought and sold one a few months ago (didn't even have a SCX10 at the time - Now I am kicking myself)....
I can't believe the manufacturers would kill off a "must do" scale mod like this. My question is - What are the alternatives to moving the steering servo to the chassis?

I hear you, I kept a wanted ad bumped for a week or more for a Hand Brothers CMS kit without a single nibble. I even posted in Vanquish's "New Idea" thread about making a CMS kit. There is a huge gap in the market for a quality kit, and I know they are more than capable in delivering, even if it's overpriced like most or all of their stuff.

DIY it! Check out this guy's homemade bracket.

Search some of the old Honcho builds, the stock Axial servo mount ( the one that bolts to the axle housing) works perfectly for mounting the servo on the frame rail.

I got one similar to this one:

GCM Racing WebStore-2013 - SCX Servo Mount

I had a custom one designed to fit my needs but well worth it. Looks scale performs great. You'll more then likely need a panhard kit once you install a cms. It's the only con to changing the stock location. Anyways look around theres some good info on mounting your servo on the chassis.

This is exactly how I did it an it works great. Best of all it's free! Drill a hole in ur chassis, use one stock hole and I 4 linked my front, no pan hard. Maybe not as spiffy, but zero issues that I have found.
A stronger servo helps. Seemed to have lost a little torque to wheels

Is this mod basically just for scale looks, or are there any steering benefits?

Scale look, a CMS brings bumpsteer which is why a panhard is needed.

A CMS is really only for scale looks. With the stock servo mount on the chassis and a bit of time to make a panhard, I'm sure you could whip a CMS of your own up.

not really gaining steering benefits other than more scale/realistic setup - but as far as front articulation goes, the CMS kit will usually help keep a SOA from hitting stuff between the frame rails when you compress the front with lots of articulation/no bump stops. good to hear VP is going to be making a kit.

oddly enough I just made a mount for my servo in the chassis, id say for 20.00 just order the level 3 one though. It wasn't hard to make but now I need to figure out a pan hard for it I think. All I did was take standard piece from a dingo kit and cut it to fit then mounted the servo tray to it. I think its just the piece at the back that's sits between the frame rails and makes it flat. I cut off all the extra pieces and made it slide in the frame rails to where I wanted it.

Yepp, another vote for the stock plate bolted to the frame rail.

I am not a scale guy, i am a basher with an SCX10, but i did this just to get the servo lifted up and have the rear of the servo pointed up, so when i play in the water, it's much less likely to have issues with water getting to the elects in the servo...

Someone should make a kit that just adds a panhard setup for use with the stock plate. All you'd need is a filler plate, and an axle mount.
