Default Ax10 locked transmission and axles for scx10 benefits ?

Hello everybody,

I just got into crawling and am building a scx10 kit.
I recently found about the ax10 locked transmission and axles.
My question is what are the benefits of them ?
Are they a worth upgrade ?

Thanks in advance

The heavy duty lockers and gear sets are options. The axles and transmission is locked.

If you really want to buy an upgrade that you will be glad you did as you are building buy a set of robinson racing steel transmission gears.

http://www.robinsonracing.com/catalog/scorpion.html
specifically 1542 and 1541

do not buy 1540 and use stock outdrives that would defeat the purpose

Not sure if you meant benefits to fully locked, or the upgrades.

The benefits of fully locked is that usually a selectable locker is a weak point. RCs are light so they can be fully locked in all situations, unlike 1:1.

Whether you need to upgrade comes down to how you drive, and the power you have in it. Setting the slipper correctly makes a huge difference in the life of parts. Lockers are cheap, if yours are plastic, get metal ones. If you have a 20-27 turn motor on 2s, the tranny gears will go a long ways. Same goes with the final gears. You don't need to dish out the bills for metal everything unless you go to a very fast motor, or high torque, like a 55turn on 4-6s batteries. The fancy aluminum axles are nice but the plastic ones are quit tough.

For me, I often buy upgrade parts to have on hand for when stock parts crap out. As long as you maintain your truck, you can replace when the stockers are worn, before they fail and ruin your day.

My suggestion is to replace the c-hubs, knuckles, and get CVD or universal front axles. Universals are fine for slower speeds and will work at higher speeds. CVD's are better for high speed rigs. Universals cause wheel velocity changes when steering, which is more noticeable at high speed. CVD, are Continuous Velocity Drive, so wheel speed is constant.

The axles are identical to the ax10 scorpion, you already have them. The transmission now has a slipper, gear cover and better outputs but other than that the transmission is also identical.
