Axle weight or wheel weight?

Hello. I´m going to put some weight to my Honcho, but I doubt if it is better put the weight in the axle or in the wheels or it is the same?
What do you think?
You must supose that the weight is at the same height in both.
Thank you!!

Re: Axle weight or wheel weight?

Axle weight is better. less rotating mass is always a plus. beef tubes an knucle weights will bring the weight down low. little wheel weight is ok like 3oz in each front or rear.

weight anywhere down below your chassis level is a plus, wheel weight is fine,
just gear a bit down maybe 2 teeth if you go heavy i.e. +6oz,

but im gonna tell you just like i was told when i asked this question a long time ago,
DO NOT TAKE ANYONES ADVICE lol i know yes its crude but just go out and try shit out,

1/4oz at a time or 2oz at a time, the only one whos gonna know whats best is you,
start by moving most of your weight forward i.e. battery tray, receiver, esc, controllers, etc.
then start with wheel weight its the easiest to do, or beeftubes if your more inclined,

just GO OUT AND TRY NEW SHIT lol trust me its more fun then reading responses to a thread "thumbsup"

I got the rtr and the tires already came glued :( Could try to remove them to add weights but I thought instead of taking a chance and ruining the tires I would just wait until I got some new tires and rims to weight them,,but im curious about the weighted axle, can anyone explain how to?

This. I run 3 ounce lead wire wrap inside Axial 1.9 beadlocks (front and rear) works great, truck still has good speed and throttle punch, crawls much better, and still looks scalish. "thumbsup" I may get beef-toobs and/or knuckle weights later.

I believe he meant more than 6oz total addition. As in 1.5oz/wheel.

X2 You will hear people say that this and that is the best or you have to have such and such. All a bunch of crap. You will figure it out. Good luck.

baking is the easiest to do without chemicals, preheat to 350* check em every 15min and they pop right off, no damage to the tire compound at all "thumbsup"

Make sure to wrap the weights in tape if you do put them in the rim. Even with 3M tape, I still had all 4 of my rims with loose weights

Re: Axle weight or wheel weight?

Meh... just build a good balance (front bias).

Re: Axle weight or wheel weight?

Not exactly sure how much I've got added, but all 4 wheel have the inside groove filled with solder, then the fronts have a full wrap of real lead weight. So its quite a bit. The wheels are the Honcho bead locks.

Works great, haven't broke anything I could blame on the wheel weight.

As has been mentioned, try it for yourself.

225-250* is plenty..... for 10-15 minutes... the hotter it is the more you risk warping the plastic rim permanently. Some warping is normal and will dissapate when cooled.

I use this method exclusively for my SC tires. It is really easy and effective.

Re: Axle weight or wheel weight?

me personally I like weight in the axle or on it..
beef toobs, steel locker, knuckle weights if needed.

Hd steel gears are heavier than the stock cast gears
Hr steel locker is 1oz ea
beeftoobs are @2oz ea
knuckle weights 2.5oz ea

more forward/lower bias in weight distribution is gonna helpout a lot.

yes,in the end its you who are gonna have to decide whats best for you and your rig.

I am in the same boat, but what I did was bought some stick on weights from a tire shop, and I stuck them to the inside of the rim. I found the 1/4oz weights will clear the knuckles and such. It made a HUGE difference. Oh and don't forget not to stick the weights over the venting holes.
