Also, I've found an awesome and very easy way to accomplish 2 things ...1) Mount a 5000 mah battery under this hardbody (sideways) and mounting the body using things you already have and the existing holes in the Mojave body. I will post these pics tomorrow. Hopeully these 2 things will help people as I have not seen these done on this forum. OK so a couple of interesting things to note about the tire selections I've made. Those are actually 1.55 Rock Stompers and 1.55 steel rims (not 1.9). I totally agree that 1.9 or in my case the 1.55 look so much better. It's way more scale than 2.2 tires! The way the body sits on the truck lowered against the 1.55 wheels is what really sets these scaler trucks apart from others. In my search for the "perfect" tire I utilized this Scale Tire Size Charts... This link shows the tire sizes. When you purchase the "Mojave" or "Hilux" hard bodies, you have to be really careful about tire sizes. The 1.55 Rock stompers are a very scale looking tire in looks and in dimensions. The 2nd tire I've chosen "just for fun" is the Flat Irons 2.2. You'll notice from the tire chart that Flat Irons 2.2 are one of the "widest" tires out there. And they are still a shorty diameter tire. Bottom Line, they work very good on the scx10 and Mojave hard body combination. No need to cut the hard body. I promised to post some pics on how I mounted the Mojave hard body on the scx10. Check out the photo. You already have the parts to do it. I tried everything and this is the best way! You do not have to cut more holes in your new hard body. The rear comes pre-drilled. You'll want to use these existing holes and "not" cut new holes on your body. The way below allows this. Just let me know if you have questions. My goal here is to let others know as this is so simple and I have not seen it done before. This will also allow you to quickly adjust the body to any position you would like (so you can use 2.2 tires or 1.9 / 1.55). Yes, this body is not painted. If you look carefully, I've added small details to it without painting the body. I liked the color just how it came. The primer color is awesome. Don't get me wrong, painting is fun and I'll do it sooner or later. But for now, I've ran with detailing the bed "black" and other parts of the truck with black trim. I'm adding the "black" toyota graphics to it soon as well. The other neat trick you can do with a scx10 and a Mohave hard body is mount the battery sideways. The only way to maintain the low body look against the 1.55 tires is to mount sideways. In my case, I went to the extreme and I'm using a 5000 mah Lipo (big battery!), and mounted it sideways. This truck has pure power! It's a "sleeper". So the battery lies "just perfect" between the chassis and the body and that's with the bench seat also installed. I even mounted the gopro holder on top of the battery. So this is proof it can be done. And then you just mount everrything else (the receiver box) on the front where the battery used to be. This does 2 things. Moves a heavy lipo battery 2 inches for the best center of gravity you can get! And raises the electronics to keep them out of 4 inches of water. Here's some more pics. Enjoy, please let me know if ya have questions. Last edited by THX_138; 06-06-2013 at 12:28 AM. |

The 1.9's look sooo much better! The 2.2 are an eye sore! Is the body painted grey or is that the color of the plastic? |

Tires are 1.55 Rock Stompers.. they fit so good to get the low look (scaler look). I put the 2.2 flat irons on there just for fun (widest / shortest combo you can get). The tire looks awesome when scrunched down from the weight of the truck. The 1.55 tires I must say fir the hard body very nice (scale looking). 2 other things while I'm thinking of it. Best place to buy a scale driver is Toys R Us. And for get about mounting magnets to hold the hard body on. Clips is the only way to do it. Otherwise the body will fall off. You want you hard body to be mounted nicely so it does not fall off so for gosh sakes use the clips, it does not look bad. Anf finally the hot racing shocks are the most scale and best working scaler shocks I have ever used! If you type "hot racing" shocks into the search button you'll get mixed reviews. Take it from me...they work awesome. Not one complaint...period. Make sure and buy the 100mm ones (not 90 and not 110). Black is an awesome color and the thick shafts make all other scale shocks just look flimsy.

Thank you! appreciate that. And that's with a 5000 mah battery sitting sideways in it w/ the 1.55 tires!

Well, I did not make it outside today but I did mount the gopro to various positions on the truck to see what it would look like in a video. See below! Let me know how I did with the video. I'm not the best at video editing but gave it a shot. Figured, I'd also show the mounting positions with some pics. |
