Default scx10 upgrades

I have a stock scx10 trail honcho rtr and was looking to upgrade it. I am using the truck as a basher/trail truck NOT a full on crawler. I want it to be a scale rig still and I want it to be aggressive on the trail. does anyone have a suggestion on what all to do to the truck?

Robinson Racing metal gears,MIP shafts, replace the plastic links and steering rod with aluminum ones, upgrade chubs, knuckles and straight adaptors.i think this is a good start, then can come more like shocks, tyres and so on

maybe all thats overkill on a trail truck are you going to increase power or leave it as is ? my advice is to drive it and see what needs improving. imho i would start with a good waterproofing and then have fun ... maybe links. and if you watch djmedic on youtube he doesnt replace steering link , axial designed the factory one to flex and act like a servo saver

Agree with lobojones on that one. I have an scx10 rubi, and I have noticed my links and steering flex when I play on the rocks and rip around in the dirt. This is still a new rig for me (less than a month old) but I haven't broke anything yet. On other rc's it seems like upgrading a part tends to stress other parts more so you have to replace everything like Kitty suggest. Drive it an play with it till it breaks and replace that part...lol

Check out the list of upgrades that I have in my build tread for my JK.
Not a real long list but enough that I went way over budget on it. Except for the light buckets, all of the items apply for the Honcho too.

I concur with the above... I have had my Dingo for little over a year and haven't upgraded gears shafts or anything internal aside from tires/rims. I played around with 2.2's and 1.9's.

The only (upgrade) I purchased was the "lift kit" from 3Racing. After playing around with it on my 2.2's I went back to 1.9's and utilzed the parts to change the shock/spring angle, it enabled more articulation and better geometry. I would drive it break it (still haven't done that ) then upgrade as you see fit.

But my dingo came with alum links.

In this order:
1) Holmes Hobbies BRXL so you can run 3S lipos
2) Replace the motor w/ a good 35T
3) 3S battery (Hard Case)
3) Hot Racing Scale Shocks
4) Some nice rims and tires
5) A Hard Body Mojave

Depends on what type of terrain you will be running in. I see you said basher/trail truck. I think both of those tires you asked about are great for crawling. For bashing find a harder compound tire or they will wear out quicker.

You can't go wrong with the factory 1.9 beadlock wheels. Why they quit including these wheels with the kits and rtr? Keep them tight or they will strip the hexes out. The proline tsls are awesome traction! Vent and weight your tires to find a proper tire footprint. Just like dropping the tire pressure on a full size rig.

And what springs should I use on the shocks? I have the stock ones that came on it and I want to see which ones would be better for it being just a trail truck

Use the soft springs on the rear and the super softs on the fronts. Drop the weight in oils to a lighter weight. If you jump it you may want to go thicker. Maybe 20 weight? For starters. See how it works with your combo.

Thanks to everyone and I want to know what all I will have to do to get the pro line 1980 Chevy truck body to fit on my truck? And where can I get a steel bumper at that isn't as restrictive as the stock one? I had to cut the side sections off of my stock one so it wouldn't catch anymore when I'm running over anything. I want to be able to mount a few leds on this bumper and put 2 tow hooks on the front of it for recovery also. Does anyone have an idea where to get one from or even how to make a bumper like that?
