Default Dirty Axles

Taking the front axle apart to do Beef Tubes and the AX- 10 mod and I couldn't be leave how much dirt and junk was inside. I live in the desert so I know that it gets everywhere, is there something that can be done to help keep the inside a little cleaner?

Thanks J

Pack your axles with lithium bearing grease.... it will keep your gears and axles clean and waterproof for a long, long time!

The holes on the top side of the housing should be filled if not using them for a mount. Agreed that filled with a high quality grease will also help.

M3 screws or set screws to fill the holes help keep debris out. Also as was mentioned, pack the axles or at least coat the seams of the axles with some type of grease to catch the grit.

After ruining all my bearings, I sprayed the bearings and axle with a waterproof corrosion inhibitor. Then I used gasket maker to seal the housing, and the lockouts to the housing. Also plugged the one servo plate mount with a screw. Watertight now.

Have you had the axles apart since doing this, I was wondering how easy they come apart with the gasket maker.

Depends on the gasket maker. I used stuff that is made for serviceable parts, and should peel away pretty easy. I wouldn't use the stuff that is like glue.
