Default My Boys Rubicons

Got my 2 sons (aged 4 and 6) the rtr rubicon for xmas. They've had great fun with them up till now, with only a few upgrades done so far, those being all the aluminium upgrades for the front axle, and a holmes hobbies 35t motor.

This was there first outing on Boxing Day.

Anyway have been umming and arring as to whether or not I should give them a proper paint job on the outside and make them a little more scale.

Last night decided yes, so stripped down, rubbed down, primered and painted the first one in Ford Dove Grey, looks a little creamy now but it turns grayer after a few days curing.
Going to recreate the black armour sections too.

This being the look I'm aiming for

Then I've ordered a couple of these to go

Next up I guess will be bumpers, sliders, links then at some point wheels and tires.

My 4 year old succesfully clearing and landing jumping 2 hiluxs at our last scale meeting.

Cheers Bud.

Gone at it hammer and tongs tonight, minus the roof and a driver managed to get the painting all done.

Then got the stickers on for the Nationals in two weeks.

Looks great Bill. I remember all the work you did on your TF2 to prepare for an event. Nice work again.

Who makes that top?

I have seen a lot of tops and have a lay out for my own, was going to try to fashion one simalar to the Viking Tops or now Rampage or Bestop what ever there called for the TJ.

But I got to have one of those tops its perfect

Also the sliders on the Picture of the Black Rubi? Those appear to be the same ones I have, but they seem to have been bent upwards? Tough Armor Side Steel Sliders for Axial SCX10 I may be wrong and they may be different alltogether bent I do know my sliders are going to be bent up now

That is of course if after I find out where the top came from!

BTW nice looking builds!

I need to get my build threa up moving too slow.

But My body work is whats taking all of my time, I had ordered a spare body so I can deystroy the firts one making everything work right.

Just taken part in the UK scale nationals, and used this one thats painted up to compete in class 2.

Couldn't help getting a few RC4WD goodies for it over the weekend. New wheels and tyres, and new front and rear bumper.

I wish I went with that front bumper, I did the Stinger bumber and Bully dog winch, but I done like the lack of recovery points on the stinger bumber. Thought about brazing something on, but I'm gonna have to wait till the power coat is nice and worn before I worry abou that.

Cheers bud.
Last I took these out with the boys it got a bit crazy and turned into a bit of a demolition derby lol, anyway outcome was mateo's wing mirrors got ripped off and lost. No easy feat they are very strong and well held in.
Axial arn't selling that parts tree yet so began hunting, one of the only mirrors that came up time and again was these ansmann ones, so took a punt and bought a couple of sets.

They are really close to the original and easy to fit. The downside was when ours got ripped off it was the lexan that gave in and tore.

So I hot glued in some styrene, used a reamer to make fresh holes, and simply popped them in, perfect mega tight fit.
