Default SCX10 motor options

I just got a new Dingo kit, a gift from the wife. I am planning to start putting it together and have questions about electronics-
What is an affordable(i know, that is subjective)motor/esc/battery combo for starting out? Doesn't need to be real fast, I have SC10 short course trucks for that. Would like good crawl-ability. Waterproof a plus. Just something to learn my way around the SCX10/scaler world to see if it is something to pursue.

You can pick up a stock Axial AE2 esc used here for pretty cheap, they are 2.4GHz, it works well and has drag brake and its somehow tunable with a castle link wire. For engine I can only suggest what I have tried, mine is a Tekin T35 and its not too expensive and has good power and response at low speed. For batteries, go 2s Lipo, I am using Onyx brand battery matched with an Onyx balancing charger, model 150. All the item mentioned are not too expensive, but not cheap in quality. If you will buy battery and charger new, consider getting the ones with deans connectors. At that point you just need a male connector to solder on your esc.

I use an ae2 and traxxas 21t titan with great flexibility. If you use a cc bec, the ae2 will handle 3s without issue. My gearing is 60/10 32p, tons of low end control and wheel speed. The titan 21t is cheap and plentiful, if it starts acting up you can toss it and not break the bank.

Axial AE2, or a sodewinder 3. A 10 anp bec is a must, and a castle link. A solar d772 on 7.4v puts out about 350oz of torque. For motors hh trail master 27t, its expensive, but rebuildable. It has tons of low end torque and still has some top end. Run all of this on HobbyKing lipos, i get 2200 30c 3s 2200 lipos for $12

axial AE2 is a great low-cost ESC that still has adjustable features if you have a Castle Link/Field Programmer....and whaddya know, they come with the RTR rigs, so they seem good enough to give to a newbie basher w/o self destructing. if you want to spend more, the Tekin FXR, Castle MMP, and HH BRXL products are highly praised. I used an Integy 35t for a long time after my axial 27t - they're cheap, rebuildable, great low-end torque with decent wheel speed on just 2s (on 3s I'm sure I'd be even happier - but now I use a HH 25t Torquemaster; ever so slightly faster also feels like has slightly more torque despite lower turn). No matter what, get LiPo in 2/3s and get more than one. For servo, get the highest torque you can afford. I don't think there are any situations where you'd be wishing for less Waterproofing - read up on waterproofing your electronics here on RCC. you'll also need an rx/tx - i'm happy with my Flysky with all the features for the price.

HH Crawlmaster 20T, BR-XL on 3S. Extremely good low speed control and a nice top end, for a crawler.

my dingo was the first rc i built from a kit i started off with a traxxas 12 turn motor then i swapped in the vxl setup from my slash if you like power and speed id go for the vxl just watch out all that power will spit out stock shafts so go with mip or aftermarket shafts of some sort!

Like many others have recommended. The brxl is an awesome choice. Gonna be more expensive than the other choices but you will not be disappointed. I wish I would have bought one from the get-go instead of other esc's.

Not trying to "thread jack" here, but I just ordered my Dingo kit last night. I went with a Savox servo, CCBEC, steel pivot balls, and Brushless Hobbies 120a sensored ESC. I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out what sensored motor I should pair it with.

Basically, I have the same exact question. I have also just read THE ENTIRE "What powers your SCX-10" thread. Yes, all 33 pages. I am on information overload here. I just need to be pointed in some direction.

I was "convinced" to buy a crawler last August. One of the first things I had a problem with was the ESC. In my research, I found this forum, which led me to Holmes Hobbies. I have since bought 4 waterproof BR-XLs! Warranty is solid, too. I got one that had the Rx plug "waterproofed" by accident! John offered to take care of it but, I just couldn't see having anyone pay the shipping costs for a simple re-wire. So, I am gonna have a buddy solder a new connector on it. So, atm, I have 3 fully functional BR-XLs. Never had a problem with any of them and my 1st one has been under water MANY times!!! Sometimes as much as 2-3" under for a foot or so, and not in a hurry.... really crawling under water so it was working hard.

As for motors: I have 3 HH motors. They are all very nice. But, I think my next one will be from Eddie0, just 'cause he seems like a great guy on here, and gave me the info to rebuild motors myself! After that, MAYBE I can tell you who builds better.

Thanks! I bought the Tekin 17.5 over the weekend. If this doesn't work out I'll go for a ROC412 1800 or 3100 depending on need. I've also considered the Novak 18.5. Of course all this has to wait until the kit is built and run.

If you go roc412, go Pro4 HD $10 difference and gobs more power.
