Default Son's Honcho gets an Extreme Makeover for 10th Bday

Well I got my son this honcho 2 years ago. It was used but had some great upgrades which made it an easy buy.

It started with
  • SCX10 Honcho Kit
  • Hands Bros CMS Kit
  • HomeBrew Boatsides
  • Axial ESC w/ 27t axial motor
  • Tower Hobbies ts170 servo
  • Rok Lox on Axial BL's
  • FlySky GT-2 rx/tx

Over the 2 years it has gotten beaten and abused by my then 7 turning 8 year old son. Only parts he broke were driveshafts (cheap axials 'upgraded' to traxxas) and one of the plastic knuckles.

If you have driven with my son the rig is surprisingly well balanced and despite his lack of finger control he sometimes puts some veteran crawlers to shame lol. Not to mention he's received many compliments for being super courteous and understanding some of the simple rules of crawling like leaving enough space for the people in front/back of him while taking a line etc. (Chalk that up to good parenting )

I have since secretly been gathering parts to do this make over for his 10th birthday on May 21st.

Here is the new list:
  • SCX10 Honcho Kit
  • XR10 Steering Mod (he always does the whole body lean while steering as if his body would move the rig more lol)
  • Axial OverDrive Gear in front, Stock HD in rear
  • HandsBros CMS
  • Hitec 5645 servo (waterproofed with dielectric grease)
  • AE-2 ESC w/ CC BEC (waterproofed with epoxy)
  • Venom Fireball 55t motor
  • Running (2) 2200mah 3s packs in parallel combined with the 55t for stupid long run times
  • MTHead Beadlock rings
  • Axial Maxxis Trepadors
  • Complete Axial Jeep Wrangler Unlimited body kit, painted Metallic Blue
  • MadSkinz Bikini Top
  • R2J Axial Jeep FSL-2 boat side sliders (mad props to Shon for a wicked product and getting my set done quickly for this time sensitive build )

And I think thats all that come to mind lol. The girlfriend swears I did this makeover for myself, but my son always makes comments about my NB JK's like "If I had a jeep I'd do blah blah blah" or he points out a jeep on the road.

I actually tricked him into helping me choose the color. Told him I wanted to repaint one of my rigs but a blue (his favorite color) and had him pick out the blue

Anyways onto the pics! Hope it performs as well as the honcho did, which it should unless that rear tire F's everything up.

Its so pretty and shiny now....gonna cry when he flips it on its lid and its not as 'new' anymore lol.

I approve of this. I am ordering a few parts now to put together a second rig and will use my jk shell with a makeover. It'll probably look a lot like this... but in old mopar pink and flat black.

Thanks! Yeah love me some jeeps, thinking of mixing it up for the next build with a Class 1 FJ

Also the color is PactraTrue Blue Pearl RC293

On a related note, my son LOVED it =)

He can't wait for our next outting, maybe i need to take more pics when its all shiny and new before then

Now we are on the hunt for a driver and passenger. Open to suggestions, just not wrestlers...they need to be somewhat scale
