Default I let the white smoke out:(

So I've had my honcho for about a month, it has about 1.5 hrs total run time on it and that's prolly way over estimating. This morning I decided to add weight to my wheels, Im running rc4wd pro10's and 1.9 iroks. I added 4 ounces to each front and 2 to each rear. Wow what an improvement, for about 3 mins. Then the motor puked. It was the stock 27t. Here's the question, I really enjoyed the speed to torque ratio of the stock setup. I would like to remain close to that power curve but without smoking it with the added weight. I have read through it all and am leaning towards the 35t tekin and fxr, I'm sure even though it's a 35t its pretty close to the stock axial motor. Also I usually run on 2s 5000mah gens ace batts but I wouldn't mind the option to run a 3s once in awhile. So, is the 35t tekin going to give me what I'm after or should I look else where. Thanks, and sorry I'm a little long winded!

I tell u what I have these two setups that hope help you look what your trying to achieve and has worked for me and never failed to work or smoke been running it since 2011:

1. LRP 21t crawler brushless combo it's submergible and has tons of power and torque.
2. Novak Rooster Crawler don't know if they make them anymore. And an Integy 45t brushed motor.
These two haven't failed me since they've been in water heat dirt you name it. But hope this help on your quest.
LRP on my venom creeper
Novak in my SCX10 honch running about 6 ounces in front each tire and 2 in the rear.

I will run my FXR and 35t combo all day long in my scalers. All weighing between 8-9.5 pounds. I run 2s for the kiddos and 3s for me. Plenty of speed and great low speed control. Also run an external BEC if you aren't already.

I figured it was due to the stock motor just being, well stock. Propane, on your fxr setup are you running stock gearing? Same speed as stock?

I'm running 87/20 on one and 87/16 or 87/18 on the other. I would say its equal stock bit I haven't ran a 27t can in so long I can't be sure.

Its a great combo an you will love it! But once you go 3s its hard to put 2s back in.. I have a problem not running 4s with my fxr an 35t HH pro.. 87/16 gearing. I like torque!!

So the fxr can handle 4s with a little smaller pinion or is there more to it than that?

You need a 4s cap to replace the stock one. Check out Crawler Innovations.

Forget the fxr. You need a Holmes brxl. You can run upto 6s lipo. Also with most servos you don't need a BEC. you pick the motor. The axial 27t motor isn't bad. Ive run them on 3s for years. Geared around 87/16 it'll have plenty of speed and torque. If you want more power a holmes handwound 27t motor will make you grin from ear to ear.

friend of mine is running the 35t in his scx10 and loves it.. stock gearing.. little more torque but still has wheelspeed..

if your running a lot of trails then the 35t would be a good fit, if your running mostly rocks than get something like the 55t... i personally have 55t motors in my scx and ax10

If you like the speed of the stock set up then get another 27t. If you go with a 35t motor you'll need to get 3s lipos and a esc that can handle 3s to get the same speed which is a good upgrade but will cost a hell of a lot more. Definetly don't get a 55t. That is painfully slow for anything but pure rock crawling.

For under $20 you could just grab a HH trail master sport and a 17t pinion and be good. The stock gearing is pretty high so when you add weight your motor overheats. Bigger tires like iroks do the same thing. As your rig gets heavier you'll have to gear down more. Just monitor your motors heat. If it too hot to touch it needs lower gears.

Yea I knew the added weight wasn't going to make it happy, but if your not breaking it your not doing it right. All I had laying around was a 55t. So it's in it now with 87/23 to make it ok, still slow. I do like the brxl, maybe leaning that direction

Ok, well just ordered a brxl so now that I burnt my motor up but still had a good esc I have managed to purchase a new esc and no motor, haha love this hobby. Now to match it with the perfect motor/gearing/battery

I run the brxl on 3s and a holmes 35t pro hand wound and its boss. 87/16 with a 9 lb rig no problems I bought an fxr and 35tekin handwound and its not as good as the holmes set up plus if I ever decide I want to run it on 4, 5 or 6s the holmes will do it and not the fxr

Good job on the BRXL. Now get some 3S lipo's and either a 35t motor or if you need faster a 27T motor. Be sure to read as much from HH vender section as you can. There is a wealth of knowledge there about motor and gearing etc. Don't forget no matter how good of a esc and motor you have, you WILL smoke it if geared to high.

Wow, I can't believe I'm seeing some 2s running in a wraith.... on a 35t at that.. maybe I'm looking for more of a rock rocket then a crawler.. I was a little bored with the 17t(87/16)(which I thought was a crawlmaster) torquemaster pro. Bought it used as a "27t" or so I was told.. comm cut an the arm said 17 on it.. well 3s wasn't enough so it got some 4s love!
Needles to say the end bell melted off of it.. so I went with a 13.5t redline brushless.. I'm thinking/ was thinking bout a 10.5t.... but I want to crawl some.. lol.. I'm putting a 35t(87/16) in my sons with a brxl.. it will prolly see a good bit of 4s..
maybe I'm just a little out their..
