Default Axial SCX10 Universals

Is there a difference between the Axial Universal set and the Competition Universal set for the SCX10. Thanks for the help.

If you are referring to the front cvds they are the same for ax10 and scx10 trucks. Save yourself some time and hassle. It may cost more money up front. Buy vanquish front vvds for your truck. They are pretty stout.

Some after market ones are stronger and some give you better angles. Go the vanquish vvd as they give you both.

Isn't the steering amount/angle determined by when the knuckle comes into contact with the axle? For example, if I had a cvd vvd capable of 180 degrees of turn, wouldn't I still be limited to when the knuckle arm hits the axle housing which limits my steering now with the stock set up? What am I missing.

You are correct that's why most ppl do the xr mod on the scx10 axles with beef toobz to run wraith knuckles and c hubs that don't have those two annoying ears in the back. Or go plastic either way works!

You'll need to upgrade the hubs and knuckles to maximize the cvd's. A set of high steer or high clearance knuckles. A longer, and likely bent, tie rod will be necessary as well.

Thanks Duxx, I just installed the Blue Monkey links and steering kit today. Next stop will be hubs and knuckles. The Honcho is brand new so the front end is still pretty tight, as tight as it can be with plastic that is.

I've got the VP stage one kit on the front end of my Dingo. Now I'm looking for some CVDs for more steering angle. How are the Axial ones? I mean Tower has them for less than $33. The VP ones are like $95. I went to their (VP's) thread and didn't like what I saw. Carnage on two week old parts. I've never broken the stock dog bones I just want more steering. What should I do? I want something before Axialfest to have some spares.

I'm using VP c hubs, knuckles, CMS, Panhard bar, axles, and steering links with Axial cvd's on my Wraith with no compatibility issues. I've recently purchased an Axial Honcho and I'm going with the Axial cvd's again.

If you want to be cheap and not buy new axle-shafts you can grind the stock drive cups for more angle before they bind up.

You did see they are running Tekin SC Pro 4 motors on 3s in the Vanquish thread? The Axial CVD will do OK if you run them with Gunnar pins in them and limited just shy of full lock.
Gunnar CVD and Axle Pins

Personally I would get the Vanquish ones if I were getting any. I put Super 300's in mine and I don't think I will ever have to replace them. I run the Vanquish ones in my Wraith.

I was looking at the 300's but wouldn't I have to do a XR front c hub conversion to run those? I already have the VP SCX-10 c hubs and knuckles.

OT question, I thought I read somewhere that someone made a brass bushing to replace the Axial flange pipe bushing for the front end. I can't find anything though. Any ideas?

The flange pipe bushing can be found at SuperShafty.com.

They have a lot of beefy products, so check out their site.
I run (non HD) Super 300 CVD's w/ Axial C's and Vanquish (non 8*) high steer knuckles. I got them 2 years ago. I do not think he sales them any more, but TCS has them.

I'm running Axial CVDs on mine with similar setup as you, check my Honcho build thread again. Axials holding to 3s, Tekin fxr, and 45T brushed 20/87 gearing and lots of hard use, but they do show some wear.
