Default Cleaning the SCX10

Can you guys give me tips on cleaning the SCX10...i dont run in mud or anything but i have alot of grass/dust and dirt all over. What i've been doing is hosing off areas of the truck...like the wheels and chassy (avoiding electrical components and motor). Than the wheel bearings and axles and bearings i just spray with WD-40. I heard WD-40 is a solvent though and not good so i switched to spraying these components with lithium white grease. Is this fine?

Typically, you dont want WD-40 to touch plastic because it could potentially weaken it over time. WD-40 does have "multi use" spray that can go on plastic. I used to take my old Losi TEN-SCTE apart and clean it from scratch to find damage. For my Axial, i tend to collect dirt, grass, and dust so I just use a rag to wipe it down all over. Axial's are way easier to clean than a Losi!

from the WD-40 site:
Quote:
WD-40 Multi-Use Product can be used on just about everything. It is safe to use on metal, rubber, wood and plastic. It can also be applied to painted metal surfaces without harming the paint. Polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic are among the few surfaces on which to avoid using a petroleum-based product like WD-40 Multi-Use Product.

Unless water is necessary to hose off mud I wouldn't use it. I use an air nozzle to blow my trucks clean if they aren't muddy. You're correct about wd-40, use an oil or grease.

I take Spray Away glass cleaner, spray it on a rag and then wipe the entire truck down.

I tear it down completely use dollar store tires degreaser. Then use marine grease on everything then spray wd40 so dirt wouldn't stick to it. Then I put it together just my .02

The only real way to clean it... IMO

is to disassemble the chassis...

otherwise it's just dusting or blowing the junk off.

I found that a stiff 1-2" paint brush comes in handy
for brushing dirt outta tight places.

but mud... blah

I'd disassemble when cleaning that muck up.
Besides... fine silt probably in ever bearing on the truck

How do you get in all the crevices and bearings with the glass cleaner???

So wd-40 is bad to use? Im fine with using white grease it just seems to attract more dust/dirt than the wd-40.

Yeah I don't have an aircompressor, I guess I don't "haaave" to use water. I can just use a dry toothbrush. And I can take it too an air compressor at work every few runs I guess.

just to clarify you guys tear the truck down just to clean it after every run???

no... only if run in mud and water

otherwise just dust or blow the dirt out.

after some accumulated operational hours...
it's probably a good idea to check that all the screws remain tight/secure.

at some point... with hours of use...
you will likely need to go thru things and be sure they're clean
and wearing properly or need replacement.

nothing is forever ya know

but you can run it 'til it breaks !? Lol

Dirt and dust add character

WD40 is like a dirt magnet. I use a silicon spray before I run...especially if there's water involved...it repels water also. Don't be afraid to waterproof your electronics, then you can use a hose to clean it, then air hose it dry. If you do it regularly, like after each run, spend a little time and put it away clean. Your rig will like it and your good to go next time out....

Thanks guys, so ill stick with water occasionally and blow it off with air comp...I wont use wd-40 anymore, ill use white grease in the axles as its super easy to spray in. The silicon spray sounds good for everthing else on the rig..so ill use that for bearings and what not.

You can buy an interior detailing pen from an auto parts store. I dont recall the exact name for it but it has a rubber tip on 1 side, a brush on the other. I used to use it to clean the interior of my car. The rubber tip is used to clean the cracks in your car interior while the brush side just wipes away dirt and what not. I use this on my RC cars instead. The brush will get into the cracks of RC cars to remove stuff. If you are messing with mud, that is a different story!

Some very good advice above...

Check out Moo-slick for your silicone sprays and Moo-tor cleaner is good and safe for electronics.

Store » CowRC

I personally use an air-compressor in the garage and it does a lot of the preliminary work. When I am at a comp, I carry a can of air blaster.

PM me if you have any questions!
