Default Twisted Shaft!

Have had my Dingo for a month or so, running with Titan 12 turn and XL-5. No extra accessories, no added weight. After quick trail run today i ran into a small problem...

The pic below shows how badly twisted the drive shaft is. Any feed back to prevent this would be appreciated!!!!

MIP, Junfac or Punisher drive shafts.

I have been using MIP products for years, and they are tough. Recently purchased a set of junfac for my scx10, have 4 runs so far without issues. Or buy traxxas plastic in bulk.

MIP. Last set you'll ever buy.

What about doing the WB8 Driveshaft Upgrade? Is it worth it or just go MIP, Junfac or Punisher drive shafts?
I hope i can post this link. I didn't see anything in the rules.

I put #12x2" wood screws in the male end of the shaft (your truck came with extras) and cut the head off of it, have been running them in my brushless 3s powered wraith with no problems yet,
Just something cheap to try out!

Wow - thanks for the quick response. Is this normal for the stock shafts? Should I be looking at something on the truck that may have caused this?

It is pretty much normal if you are using a higher power motor or have the slipper clutch tightened all the way.

The best thing to do at this point is invest in a set of MIPs and crawl on with life.

Ha! Looks familiar. If you take a part from the parts tree from the parts bag that came with your kit. The actual garbage part you'd throw a way when all the part are off it. Shave all the tabs off it and shove it in the male part of the shaft. It will keep it from collapsing on itself. Not nearly as tough as MIP , but a free mod that does strengthen the stock shaft.

preventative... budget fix

6 mm thread-all, cut to the length of the inner male shaft,
then inserted and reassembled. (CA glue to insure it stays put)

splines should hold up better to reasonable torque loads.

The WB8 mod works pretty well if you have done it before you have turned you drive shaft into a Twizzler. I have done it on both my Honcho and Wraith.

But once your drive shaft has been Twizzled, is it really worth investing in another set of plastic shafts instead of putting that money towards a set of MIPs?

I also like having a fuse, that can be changed out easily.

Is the MIPS for the scx10 a pin through design where it hooks to the trans and diff or just set screws?

For the pin through design you use MIP #8101 shafts with Traxxas #5145 Screw Pins 4x15mm
